Today we’d like to introduce you to Madelyn Blanquiz.
Hi Madelyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
– Since I was a kid I’ve always dreamt of being a baker and having my own shop. For any school events, or family functions I would always volunteer to bring something sweet and from scratch! I’ve always enjoyed seeing the satisfied looks on everyone’s faces and compliments from enjoying my treats. A few years ago my sister Tara passed away a week from her turning 29 years old from cancer. Her passing made me realize, life is short for us all; it can be taken away from us at any given moment. Because of this I started My Tyrona’s as a tribute to my older sister Tara Blanquiz.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
– I’d say trying to keep a balance between family, work and business has been my most challenging obstacle. When I started my Tyrona’s my son was only a year old, it was difficult to tend to a 1 year olds needs while also trying to start a business! Now with My Tyrona’s about to be 3 years old I now have a newborn and a 5 year old, along with being a wife, a student and my main job it can be tiring. Some days I want to throw in the towel but I just think of Tara and getting her story out, this is what motivates me to keep going. I hope to set an example to my sons that hard work pays off and anything is possible!
As you know, we’re big fans of My Tyrona’s pastries . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
– I specialize in gourmet cheesecakes! I like to turn seasonal fruits and flavors into nostalgic treats that are family favorites! I do a lot of the baking on my own but I have continuous support from my family! A lot of my menus are inspired by my family’s favorites, every year for Tara’s birthday I will have a special menu dedicated to all things she enjoyed most. At my markets you’ll also be welcomed by my family which I’ve always loved. My older sister Miranda welcoming everyone with a smile, my mom Cindy explaining the menu items of the day, my dad Jerry sampling products in the back lol and my husband Joe helping with set up and entertaining our son Marvel. My Tyrona’s is all about family and we hope to make you feel like family!
