Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennipha Ricks
Hi Jennipha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Athens, TX, in a family deeply rooted in both education and ministry. My parents were educators, and many of my relatives served in the church, so these influences were central to my upbringing. From the outside, it might have looked like I had an ideal childhood, but behind closed doors, there was a lot of chaos and abuse that shaped my early years.
Unfortunately, this pattern followed me into adulthood, where I found myself in two abusive marriages. Despite the joyful moments, the darkness often overshadowed the light in my life. However, through therapy and a deepening relationship with Christ, I learned to take accountability for my role in those relationships and began the journey of healing. My faith has been instrumental in freeing me from the guilt and shame that haunted me, and it also led me to confront and begin the ongoing process of forgiving my father.
My journey from trauma to triumph is one that has shaped me into who I am today. By the grace of God, I have achieved many of the goals I set for myself, and I continue to set new ones, trusting that they will also come to pass. My story is a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and the transformative work of Christ in my life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There were great days, OK days, bad days, and days where I just couldn’t find the strength to get out of bed. But with God and the support of amazing friends, I’ve been able to pick myself up each time when things got hard. Throughout my life, I’ve faced struggles on many fronts—mentally, emotionally, financially, and spiritually. The weight of these challenges sometimes felt unbearable, but I’m thankful for God’s favor in this season because He has always shown up right when I needed Him most. One scripture that has carried me through these times is Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” This promise has been a source of strength and reassurance, reminding me that I am never alone in my struggles.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When it comes to finding a mentor or networking, my advice is to seek out those who not only have the knowledge and experience you aspire to but who also align with your values and spiritual journey. Look for mentors who inspire you to grow not just professionally, but personally and spiritually as well. Don’t be afraid to reach out and express your genuine interest in learning from them. Building authentic relationships is key—focus on creating connections that are meaningful and mutually beneficial.
What has worked well for me is being open and honest about my own journey, including the struggles and triumphs I’ve faced. Sharing your story can create a deeper bond with potential mentors and connections, as it shows vulnerability and resilience, which are often more relatable than success alone.
Additionally, I’ve learned the importance of being willing to surrender to God’s plan. Sometimes, the best mentors and opportunities come from unexpected places when we allow God to guide us. Embrace the beauty within the cracks of your life, because those are the places where God’s light can shine through and where He can put you back together in ways that make you stronger and more whole than before. Let your network be filled with people who not only build you up but also help you see and embrace the beauty in your brokenness as God works in your life.
