Hidden Gems: Meet Erik Melland of Longhorn Health and Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Melland.

Hi Erik, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I recently moved to New Braunfels a little over 2 years ago and had a goal to create a gym of my own. From many fitness systems that I’ve learned over 20 years has led me to this journey and I am excited to share it with everyone so they can be in the best shape in their lives.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hasn’t been a smooth road, but we knew that. Being new to town or even having a new style of fitness brought into town can be challenging. Many are used to conventional training as I focus on both unconventional and conventional training. We have been steady with people noticing us in the fog but once they know what we offer, they are already a member. We are confident about the future and very happy that we are slowly progressing forward.

As you know, we’re big fans of Longhorn Health and Fitness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My gym, Longhorn Health and Fitness is a community gym that focuses on each members needs. We offer recovery, restoration, moderate and high intensity training that is ran by a system that was made for First Responders, but also made for everyone! What sets us apart from others is our best unconventional training that improves your performance as you age, helps you manage stress more in life, improves your physical, train out of pain, etc. we do so much in our gym, it’s hard to not pin point what we do not offer. I am proud that this brand of mine has a community that created an atmosphere, a place they call home and find themselves being safe/comfortable training. I believe those things really make me happy. We offer general fitness, one in ones, striking/boxing, kids class, senior class, recovery class, restorative training, moderate intensity training to high intensity training, all to help balance out your everyday training days where you don’t skip a day just because you are sore, you start to enjoy the cross training throughout the week more as you commit to the training throughout the week. We believe in results so we work hard with everyone to get to their goals. We also offer online training that covers many exercises to many fitness tools, recovery to restoration, as well as many full follow along training videos to workout to at home/anywhere!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory will always be the days with my mom and brother. Everyday was my favorite because my mom would never let me feel our struggles financially, she always made us feel rich with joy. And my brother always made everyday interesting for me. Those days were golden. From when I was 5 years old and on.
