Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Lucky.
Hi DJ Lucky, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
DJ Lucky skyrocketed onto the nightlife scene with his unique style quickly earning his way onto the local radio stations at the tender age of 16. Specializing in freestyle, house music, hip-hop, and rap was how he made his way to being the most sought after
DJ Lucky has won numerous DJ competitions including Pepsi’s Superstar DJ Contest which was held in New Orleans at the House of Blues. Twenty-four years later and DJ Lucky is still at the top of his game DJ’ing all around the state.
With support from local and major hip-hop acts, he secured his place among the top DJs in all of Texas. He has mastered the art of DJ’ing through hard work and dedication to his craft. With his relentless attitude DJ Lucky -aka- The UPS Mann will undeniably make his mark in the music industry.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Some of the struggles have been creating a balance between DJ’ing and being a single father to five kids. Thankfully, all of my kids grew up with this hectic DJ lifestyle and learned to adapt to the industry’s demands. Keeping up with the ever-changing scheduling has kept me busy and allowed me to make this a full-time career. It definitely keeps me on my toes and become a quick problem solver.
We’ve been impressed, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is to enjoy life to the fullest! I make sure to create an ambiance that keeps crowds dancing and enjoying their night out. I specialize in mixing a mixture of genres from old school to the newest hits. Being able to read crowds instantly and taking them on a musical journey is what set me apart from other DJs.
The musical knowledge attained throughout my 24 years in this industry has enabled me to remix tracks on the fly. I am most proud of the brand I’ve built, which mainly focuses on Good Vibes Only! I make sure to spread positivity not only through music but through my social media outlets as well.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
Risk-taking is a huge part of what makes my journey special. I moved from Laredo to San Antonio 10 years ago without any connections to any bars, clubs, etc. I took risks that at times failed, but the learning experience made me adjust and realize what needed to change.
I literally quit my day job from one day to the other knowing I was going to succeed in the DJ industry. Taking the first step was the scariest and hardest, but once the “ball got rolling” all the rewards to the risks paid off. I went from 1 gig a month in San Antonio to being booked seven days a week.
