Hidden Gems: Meet Alexandra Toiaivao of Jim’s Pet Care Need’s

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Toiaivao.

Hi Alexandra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is Alexandra I go by Allie, but I moved to San Antonio in February 2022 with my Husband and Son, we moved from Salt Lake City Utah. I have been a Vet Tech and ER Vet Tech for 18+ years but had tried to have a baby for over 9 years. After having many miscarriages and one Pulmonary Embolism later we welcomed our son in June 2021. We decided to move to San Antonio to give our family a new start. With everything, we went through to have our son and then after my son I was having a hard time deciding to go back to work in a vet clinic or what I should do, and I decided I still wanted to work with Animals but at my own pace and not doing emergencies and traumas and then coming home to a beautiful baby.

So, in March 2022, I officially opened Jim’s Pet Care Needs. Jims is named after my first cat Jim who unfortunately passed away in Sept. 2019 from a long hard battle with Adenocarcinoma. It was a huge loss for me and put me in a very deep depression, then a little over a year later Jim sent us our son. I made a promise to Jim the day I let him cross the rainbow bridge and that was that I would help as many animals as I could. I got Jim at my first Job in Alabama where I was working at a vet clinic just walking dogs and taking care of them, I went to take out the trash and there was Jim.

Jims offers a wide variety of in-home pet care services. From Pet Sitting in your home while you are away to coming over a few times a day to let your pup out while you are away at work or an all-day event. Jim is solely run and operated by me I take care of everything from Fish to Horses and all the Dogs and Cats in between.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Struggles along the way would have to be the severe depression I fell into after Jim passed along with all the miscarriages and the Pulmonary Embolism.

We also lost both of my husband’s parents, several aunts and uncles on his side, and then my grandpa and cousin all within a very short time. Life has never been easy or kind to us we have just gotten good at jumping over the boulders and rocks life throws at us.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well, I am a Vet Tech and ER/Trauma Vet Tech with 18+ Years of Experience, opening Jim’s allows me to use what I know in Veterinary Medicine and help those that may need help or do need my help. I have helped several of my clients with getting their animal’s medical attention for things the owners were unaware of. At Jim’s, we provide at-home pet care so in your home where they feel safe and secure.

I come over many times a day to walk them, get fresh water, administer medications if needed, clean up any messes that may have been made, and also ensure your home is secure, and bring in packages and mail if applicable. I also offer baths, nail trimming, and other services that can be done at your home. I do work with my small son which is the most amazing part because it teaches him to be kind and gentle to all animals whether they are big or small they all need to be treated kindly and with respect and love.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I have a very strong passion for animals and just want them to be happy and healthy.
