Exploring Life & Business with Yemile Mizrahi of Yoga Kurunta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yemile Mizrahi. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Both Yemile and Mary are dedicated long-term students of Iyengar Yoga. They met when Mary was enrolled in a 300-hour advanced Teacher Training with the Esther Vexler yoga school in San Antonio. This teacher training had an emphasis on Iyengar Yoga. At this time, Yemile was pursuing her certification as an Iyengar Yoga Teacher. As the years went by a friendship between the two developed.

The two had a strong desire to foster and build an Iyengar Yoga community in San Antonio. After organizing weekend workshops at different studios around town it became clear in order to build an Iyengar Yoga Community the community needed to have its own studio. From that need, Yoga Kurunta was born! Yoga Kurunta is San Antonio’s only Yoga studio with a rope wall and offering Iyengar Rope Wall classes.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Opening a Yoga studio in the middle of a global pandemic certainly has presented challenges. Most importantly, how to keep our students safe. Yoga Kurunta is following safety protocols by keeping class sizes small and social distancing. There is still a fair amount of uncertainty in the general public about group gatherings so we want people to feel as comfortable and safe as possible.

The hesitation from the general public to go back to group activities has made growth a little slower than anticipated but the students who come are loving the studio and becoming dedicated practitioners!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Yoga Kurunta?
Yoga Kurunta is the only yoga studio in San Antonio which features an Iyengar Rope Wall. We specialize in Rope Wall yoga and Iyengar Yoga. Iyengar Yoga is based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar of Pune, India. Iyengar Yoga focuses on precise action in the yoga pose (asana) and alignment of the body through the use of props such as blocks, straps, blankets, and chairs. The Rope Wall is a huge prop the yoga practitioner is able to use during their yoga practice.

The Ropework is challenging, strengthening, and fun! A class favorite is Rope Sirsasana where practitioners get to hang upside down supported by the ropes around their hips. The spine is able to stretch, lengthen and get space. It feels amazing!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
At Yoga Kurunta we are cultivating a yoga community. We want the people who practice here to feel that this is their yoga home and can’t wait to attend their next class. Often after class, you will find students sipping tea and chatting with each other.

We strive to provide the best experience for our students by employing some of the most highly knowledgeable and skilled yoga teachers in San Antonio, What’s important for our success as a studio is meeting our student’s needs to advance their personal practice of yoga leading them to happier and healthier lives.
