Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Tye.
Hi Steven, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was working as a high school teacher at a local private school. Part of my job required me to travel with a nationally competitive debate team. My wife and I had just had my (now) second child, and I wanted to stay home more. But giving up the debate coach stipend was going to be tough financially. So I decided to start a driving school to make some extra money. It was intended to be a part time job for me, but the company kept growing. Finally, in 2020, I went all in on the driving school, and it’s my main gig now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Immediately after I opened for business, a big driving school in San Antonio opened up across town. Eventually, they left Boerne. A few years after that, COVID hit and we were shuttered for two months. Ultimately, we streamlined our school during that time and reopened more efficient than ever!
We’ve been impressed with Tye’s Driving School, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a family owned and operated driving school for teens. We offer traditional classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, and offer the DPS certified behind-the-wheel exam.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Always be willing to adapt. Companies must constantly change with conditions in order to survive.
