Hi Selena, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It all started about a year ago when my partner Sadie and I attempted to do a Mother’s Day special. I was going to do a facial and a shoulder ,neck, scalp massage and her a scalp treatment in different rooms. I always laugh because nobody booked but we saw the bed on TikTok go viral so we decided to get a bed and save enough to rent out another room to put everything together. God said you had the idea now let me give you something better. With the help of our mentor a year later in March 2024 we opened Sanctuary Head Spa and are looking to start hiring more cosmetologists to grow our team.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road but if it was everyone would be doing it. By the grace of God we have been able to persevere. Learning to manage so many different personalities, keeping boundaries and understanding that you are not going to be for everyone and that’s okay. You can not people please everyone because you will lose yourself. I’m so grateful to to have an amazing support system to help me through the emotions and understanding how I can change my perspective to the opportunities that arise.

Sanctuary Heads Spa specializes in luxurious Japanese scalp treatments and offers full-body massages tailored to a diverse clientele. We cater to all hair types, from fine to 3C/4C hair, with various packages available, including our Signature, Chosen and Golden Gates packages.
Our signature package focuses on scalp health, while the shoulder and neck massage provides relaxation. The Golden Gate package is our most requested service, lasting 1.5 to 2 hours. It includes a scalp analysis, pre-wash, cleansing and hydrating conditioner, a hydrating facial with double cleanse, exfoliation, and finishes with a hydrating serum and moisturizer that ends with the SPF. Additionally, you’ll enjoy a hot stone bed treatment with MoxieBustin and recovery steam to relieve scalp congestion, concluding with a blowout.
We can assist with scalp conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, and dandruff. Currently, we accommodate up to three guests for most services and two for our larger packages, with plans to expand to serve parties of six as our team grows.
What sets us apart is our faith-based approach; we play instrumental Christian worship music throughout the services, honoring and glorifying God.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to others who are just starting that I wish I would have done was put God first. Don’t give up on your dream because you’re the one that had it, we are all meant to be and do great things in this life. As it may be a rocky start for most because it took me 2 years of not having clients to now being booked out months in advance because of the discipline, hard work and consistency of not giving up and believing in myself with all my faith in him gave me this turnout.
