Exploring Life & Business with Lauren Scorey of Scoreys photos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Scorey

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always had a passion for capturing the beauty of nature and animals through photography. My journey took a significant turn when my husband and I welcomed our first dog, Kona, into our life, inspiring me to pursue photography more seriously. Over the years, my focus expanded from just my personal dogs and friends and family to include couples, families, pets, and dog sport events.

Due to that I decided to specialize in animal and pet photography because I have a genuine love for animals, and I find joy in capturing the special bond between families and their four-legged companions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is always accompanied by a few bumps along the way! One challenge I faced in the beginning was getting my name out there and finding clients. Word of mouth and recommendations where my main way of finding new clients and are the highest compliments I can receive. I’ve been fortunate to have amazing people who recommend me to their friends and family.

On the other hand, being a pet photographer comes with its own set of challenges, such as working with animals who may not always want to cooperate or conducting sessions for owners with pets nearing the end of their lives. These moments can be quite emotional, but they also serve to highlight the deep bonds we share with our furry companions.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a local photographer in San Antonio specializing in capturing pets, dog sports, families, and couples! With my background as both a photographer and a dog trainer, I have the unique advantage of working with dogs of all temperaments and energy levels, as well as countless other animals.

I take great pride in creating genuine connections with my clients and their pets, making every session enjoyable for everyone while capturing lasting memories!

While I often focus on dogs and pets, I also work with families, couples, and little ones. Many clients want to include their furry friends in family photos because, after all, our four-legged companions are family too! However, I also offer sessions without pets, and I truly enjoy capturing beautiful memories for everyone to cherish!

What are your plans for the future?
My future plans include continuing to expand my business and meeting more like-minded individuals who are interested in creating fun and memorable moments in front of the lens. I consider it an honor to capture those important milestones for my clients.

This year, I’d love to book more sessions for families, both with and without pets, and explore capturing a wider variety of animals beyond just dogs. I’m also excited about the opportunity to photograph some dog sporting events!

One thing I’m particularly looking forward to is connecting with other creative individuals in the photography community. I’m eager to learn from others and continue growing my craft!
