Exploring Life & Business with Kassandra Chapa of Firulais Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kassandra Chapa.

Kassandra Chapa

Hi, Kassandra; having you on the platform is an honor. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I learned to sew through my grandmother and was often found making bandanas from old t-shirts for my dogs as a hobby. I then realized there needed to be more pet representation in Hispanic/Latino households. Therefore, I began to branch out to serape textiles and reach out to artisans. I sincerely found myself emerging into my newfound hobby, and thus, Firulais Co. started to.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Playing one too many roles when owning a business is overwhelming but very doable. As a graduate student, full-time graphic designer, and business owner, prioritizing your time is vital.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Firulais Co.?
Firulais Co. It is a pet accessories business that takes pride in preserving Mexican traditions through our pets! We have the privilege of working closely with artisans all over Mexico and designing in-house. From hand-woven dog collars to locally sourced textiles for pet clothing, our accessories embody the essence of Mexican culture. My stray dogs inspired me to it “Firulais,” as it’s a generic term used for rescues/strays in Mexico. It felt right to name it Firulais Co. as it embraces my Mexican culture and the Americanness of being a dog mom. We are known for our pan dulce squeaker toys and funny graphic bandanas, which bring nostalgia and remind us of our culture!
