Exploring Life & Business with Judi Delgado Hooks of Me Vida Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judi Delgado Hooks.

Hi Judi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, and moved to San Antonio in 1993. San Antonio became the place where I built my career, raised my three daughters—Sofia, Alexa and Nadia—and, many years later, launched my own business. My journey has been shaped by hard work, relationships, adaptability and a willingness to keep learning.

Over the course of my career, I spent a total of 20 years with H-E-B, although those years were not consecutive. I initially worked there for five years before stepping away after having Alexa and Nadia back-to-back. With Sofia, my oldest, and two new babies at home, I needed to find a better way to balance motherhood and my career.

That transition led me to Creative Civilization, where I spent three years gaining valuable agency experience and expanding my understanding of advertising, branding and multicultural marketing. I eventually found my way back to H-E-B, where I continued to grow professionally and ultimately served in marketing leadership.

During my years with H-E-B, I had the opportunity to lead regional marketing initiatives, support the company’s expansion into new markets and work on efforts involving digital growth, community engagement, multicultural marketing, sports partnerships and services such as Curbside and Delivery. My time there taught me an incredible amount about customers, communities and the importance of building brands that people genuinely trust.

After H-E-B, I transitioned back into the agency world, where I served as a senior marketing leader and later a managing partner. That experience allowed me to work with organizations across many industries and gave me an even broader understanding of the challenges businesses face when trying to grow, connect with their audiences and make smart marketing investments.

After many years of helping build and promote other brands, I decided it was time to build something of my own. I founded Me Vida Marketing to provide businesses and organizations with experienced, thoughtful marketing leadership in a more personal and flexible way. Today, I help clients clarify their goals, develop practical strategies and bring the right partners and resources together to move their businesses forward.

My career has not followed a perfectly straight line, but every chapter—including the choices I made for my family—helped prepare me for where I am today. Launching my own company has been exciting, challenging and humbling, and I am grateful to use everything I have learned to help other people and organizations tell their stories and grow.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. One of my greatest challenges has been balancing the demands of a growing career with raising three daughters and being present for my family. Many of the opportunities that helped me grow professionally also required long hours, travel and difficult tradeoffs. There were seasons when that balance was especially challenging, and I learned that professional success can sometimes come with personal sacrifices.

I have also had to navigate career transitions, changing priorities and the uncertainty that comes with leaving familiar roles to begin something new. Each transition required me to trust my experience, adapt and become comfortable with not always knowing exactly what the next chapter would look like.

Starting Me Vida Marketing brought a new set of challenges. Building a business means being responsible for every aspect of it—from finding clients and managing finances to delivering the work and continuing to grow professionally. It can be exciting one day and humbling the next.

Through it all, I have learned that success is not necessarily about having a perfectly smooth or linear journey. It is about continuing to move forward, learning from each season and becoming more intentional about what you want your life and career to look like. Those challenges have helped me become a stronger leader, business owner, mother and person.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Me Vida Marketing is a San Antonio-based marketing consultancy that provides experienced, hands-on marketing leadership to businesses and organizations that may not need a full-time senior marketing executive but would benefit from experienced strategic leadership.

I work closely with clients to understand their business, identify their most important opportunities and develop practical marketing strategies tied to their goals. My services can include brand and marketing strategy, campaign development, media planning, digital marketing, community engagement, public relations support and oversight of creative and specialized partners.

What sets Me Vida Marketing apart is the personal, flexible approach. Clients work directly with me, and I become an extension of their team rather than simply handing them a plan and stepping away. I help bring clarity to their marketing, determine where their resources will have the greatest impact and connect them with trusted specialists when additional expertise is needed. This model gives clients access to senior-level leadership without the overhead of a large agency or the commitment of a full-time executive.

My experience spans corporate marketing, advertising agencies and business leadership, which allows me to look at challenges from several perspectives. I understand the importance of strong creative work, but I also believe marketing must support a clear business objective and make sense for the client’s budget.

What I am most proud of is building a business rooted in relationships, trust and genuine investment in my clients’ success. Me Vida Marketing is intentionally personal. I want every client to feel heard, supported and confident that their marketing is moving in the right direction.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
One thing I would like readers to know is that it is never too late to begin a new chapter. Starting Me Vida Marketing at this stage of my career required me to step away from the security of established organizations and trust that my experience, relationships and perspective had value on their own.

Entrepreneurship can feel especially vulnerable because you are no longer representing someone else’s brand—you are putting your own name, reputation and vision forward. I am still learning and building every day, but I have also discovered how rewarding it is to create something that reflects both my professional experience and the way I want to serve others.

I hope my story encourages someone who may be considering a change but is waiting for the “perfect” time. The path may not be perfectly clear, and it may not always feel comfortable, but that does not mean you are not ready. Sometimes the next step is simply believing that everything you have learned along the way has prepared you for what comes next.

I am grateful to San Antonio for the relationships, opportunities and sense of community it has given me since I moved here in 1993. I am excited to continue building Me Vida Marketing and contributing to the city that has become home.
