Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Jacob.
Hi Jeremy, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Our first business in San Antonio was Float Wellness Spa, which we opened in 2016. It was one of those “that will never work in San Antonio” kinds of businesses. Over the years, our clients have helped us grow from a three-float tank center to a wellness spa with a couple’s massage room, three single massage rooms, five float tanks, two infrared saunas, and one salt cave. During this time, a client introduced me to Wim Hof, and I started to take my fitness more seriously.
Over the years I realized that many of the wellness and athletic recovery protocols and technologies that were available didn’t fit into the spa model. I personally was seeking regular access to ice baths as part of my Wim Hof Method practice, and we were trying out things like Red Light Therapy and compression boots at Float. They just didn’t fit. The scheduling and cost associated with that model made these quick and regular services too expensive and inconvenient for clients to use regularly.
This all led me to the concept of a no-appointment facility where clients can access an array of wellness and athletic recovery services in a much more affordable model. It also aligned with our goal to help our community have greater access to mental and physical wellness protocols. Evolve Human Optimization Lab is the first facility of its kind, right here in San Antonio!
We offer over 20 different services, which are all available with a day pass or membership. This allows our clients to use these services more regularly and with that, enjoy more benefits.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Operating and growing a small business will always be challenging. We are blessed to be able to do things that we believe in and that help people. We feel really fortunate to have survived the Covid pandemic with Float.
Opening a second business with Evolve has been a challenge, but our amazing crew at Float has allowed me to focus on Evolve. I am happy to say that the response to Evolve in the first 3 months has been greater than we imagined, so we are just trying to keep up!
We’ve been impressed with Evolve Human Optimization Labs and Float Wellness Spa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Evolve Human Optimization Labs is the first facility of its kind, so I am really proud of what we imagined and then brought to life. We now get to see clients grow and improve their health, help local athletes compete on a national level, and provide access to services that are new to San Antonio.
I personally love our cold plunge and contrast therapy (hot and cold therapy combined). Science is showing us that cold plunges and saunas are one of the best things you can do for your health. I also really love being able to enjoy the services at Evolve myself! We wanted to create a space that fosters a sense of community around healthy practices, and we are seeing that happen at Evolve. Here is a list of all the services we offer at Evolve, I know it’s long, but that’s what makes our facility so cool!
You can access everything with a Day Pass or Membership. Cold plunges (2), Traditional Saunas (Norwegian), Infrared Saunas, Red Light therapy (full body), Massage Chairs, Compression Boots, Cryo Compression, Percussive massagers, TENS and Electro Muscle Stimulation, Vibe Plate, Inversion Table, Guided Stretching and Yoga, Neuro and Cognitive training, Guided meditation, Light therapy, Foam Rolling station with vibrating foam rollers and trigger point balls.
We also offer metabolic and VO2 Max testing and assisted stretching for an upcharge. At Float Wellness Spa we offer floatation therapy, massage, couples massage, barefoot massage, infrared saunas, and a salt cave!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
We are the industry! Evolve Human Optimization Lab is the first of its kind, so we are franchising the business nationally. We sometimes refer to it as the world’s first walk-in biohacking facility. Biohacking is anything you do to improve your health and wellness.
Often it refers to technology, but I like to think of it as utilizing science to help our bodies return to their optimal state. We just don’t want that phrasing to make it feel inaccessible or pretentious. It’s a place where all are welcome, and all can benefit. From those trying to manage chronic pain to the highest level of athletes.
For Float, I just want to see the practice of floatation therapy recognized as a legitimate treatment for stress, anxiety, PTSD, and depression. The research backs us up, but we have a lot of work to do on the public side.
