Today we’d like to introduce you to Farrin Gustafson.
Hi Farrin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was first featured in Voyage San Antonio in 2023, I shared the early chapter of my journey into entrepreneurship. At that time, I was transitioning from my career as a theatre educator into business ownership while navigating motherhood and searching for work that felt meaningful, flexible, and aligned with the life I wanted to build. Vacations Worth Melting For started as a way to help families plan Disney and Universal vacations with less stress and more joy, but it quickly became clear that this work was about so much more than booking trips.
My background in theatre has always shaped the way I approach travel planning. I naturally see vacations as experiences with a beginning, middle, and end, where the details matter and the memories last long after the final curtain. From day one, my goal was to remove the overwhelm that so many families feel during the planning process and replace it with clarity, confidence, and excitement.
Over the past few years, both I and my business have grown in ways I could not have fully imagined at the start. What began as passion driven planning has evolved into a concierge level service rooted in personalization, trust, and intentional care. I have become increasingly clear about who I serve best and how I can support them, and today I work primarily with busy, high achieving families who value their time and want to feel completely taken care of throughout their vacation planning journey. During this time, I also deepened my commitment to accessibility in travel by becoming a double certified Autism Travel Professional. As both my son and I received ADHD and autism diagnoses, accessibility shifted from something I cared about professionally to something I understood personally, giving me lived perspective alongside formal training and allowing me to better support families who benefit from thoughtful, informed planning and accommodations that make travel feel possible and enjoyable.
My work now extends beyond itinerary design into client education, accessibility informed planning, community building, and mentorship within the travel industry. I have stepped into my role not only as a planner, but as a guide and advocate who helps families navigate complex decisions with confidence and ease.
Looking back, the biggest change has been the clarity I have gained along the way. The heart behind Vacations Worth Melting For has always been the same, but my confidence, vision, and sense of purpose have deepened. What started as a leap of faith has grown into a business that reflects my creativity, values, and genuine belief that vacations can create meaningful connection and lasting memories for the families I serve.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, although I think that is true for most entrepreneurs. Building a business while simultaneously growing as a person means you are often learning lessons in real time, sometimes before you feel fully ready.
In the early stages, one of the biggest challenges was navigating the shift from employee to business owner. As a former educator, I was used to clear expectations, defined roles, and structured feedback. Entrepreneurship required me to create that structure for myself while also building confidence in my expertise and learning how to make decisions without a roadmap.
Another layer of challenge came from operating within an industry that is constantly evolving. Theme park travel in particular changes frequently, which means staying informed and adapting quickly is essential. There is also a significant amount of behind the scenes work that clients never see, from supplier relationships to policy updates to continuous professional development, all of which require time, energy, and intentional focus.
Perhaps the most meaningful growth has come from learning to establish boundaries and define alignment within my business. Early on, I said yes to nearly everything because I was grateful for opportunities and eager to grow. Over time, I realized that sustainable success comes from clarity around who I serve best, how I deliver value, and what level of support allows me to show up fully for my clients without sacrificing my own wellbeing.
At the same time, some of the personal experiences that shaped my life also influenced my professional journey. Navigating neurodivergence within my family and within myself while building a business added complexity, but it also strengthened my empathy, creativity, and problem solving skills in ways that now directly benefit my clients.
While the road has included uncertainty, learning curves, and moments of doubt, each challenge has contributed to the business I have today. The process has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of building a business that reflects not only what I do, but how I want to live and serve others. Looking back, I would not describe the journey as smooth, but I would absolutely describe it as meaningful and worthwhile.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Vacations Worth Melting For is a boutique travel planning business focused on highly customized Disney, Universal, and entertainment based vacations for families who want a seamless experience without carrying the mental load of planning it themselves. At its core, my work is about transforming what can feel like an overwhelming process into something clear, collaborative, and genuinely enjoyable long before a client ever leaves home.
I provide concierge level planning that goes far beyond booking accommodations and tickets. My clients receive personalized guidance, strategic recommendations, detailed day by day itineraries, and ongoing support throughout their planning journey. From navigating Lightning Lane strategies to selecting resorts that align with a family’s priorities to designing balanced park days that allow for both excitement and rest, every recommendation is tailored to the specific people taking the trip rather than a generic template.
Over time, I have become known for my deeply relational approach to service. I spend significant time getting to know my clients, understanding their routines, preferences, and goals for their vacation so that what I create feels intuitive and realistic for their family. This relationship driven model allows me to anticipate needs, reduce friction points, and offer guidance that feels both practical and personal.
Accessibility informed planning is also an important part of my brand identity. As a double certified Autism Travel Professional with lived experience navigating neurodivergence, I approach every trip with an awareness that families experience travel differently. Whether that means sensory considerations, pacing adjustments, preparation resources, or simply offering reassurance and understanding, my goal is for families to feel supported and confident that their vacation can work for them.
What sets Vacations Worth Melting For apart is the combination of expertise, intentional care, and experience design. My background in theatre continues to influence how I think about vacations as stories unfolding in real time, where thoughtful details create lasting memories. I do not believe in one size fits all planning, and I am comfortable advising clients to do less, rest more, or shift expectations when that choice will ultimately lead to a better experience.
Brand wise, I am most proud of the trust my clients place in me and the clarity my business now reflects. Vacations Worth Melting For has grown into a brand that represents warmth, professionalism, inclusivity, and genuine partnership. Clients know they are not simply receiving information but gaining an advocate and collaborator who is invested in the success of their trip.
I want readers to know that my services are designed for people who value their time, appreciate thoughtful guidance, and want to feel taken care of from start to finish. Whether someone is planning a once in a lifetime family vacation or returning to destinations they love, my role is to ensure the experience feels intentional, supported, and ultimately worthy of the memories they hope to create.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
There are several ways people can connect with and work alongside Vacations Worth Melting For, depending on what kind of relationship they are looking for. For families interested in vacation planning, the best place to start is by scheduling a complimentary consultation through my website. This conversation allows us to explore travel goals, priorities, and preferences so I can determine how to best support them and design a planning experience that feels collaborative and personalized from the very beginning.
I also welcome opportunities for professional collaboration with brands, organizations, and fellow advisors who share similar values around accessibility, thoughtful travel, and client centered service. Partnerships that involve education, community events, speaking engagements, or content creation are especially meaningful to me because they allow me to extend my impact beyond individual client trips and contribute to broader conversations within the travel space.
For those who want to stay connected but may not be planning a trip right away, joining my online community is a wonderful way to engage. I host a Facebook group where travelers can ask questions, learn from shared experiences, and access educational resources that make planning feel more approachable and less overwhelming. Following along on social media is another way to support my work, as I regularly share insights, updates, and behind the scenes perspectives that help travelers feel more informed and confident.
Ultimately, the most meaningful form of support continues to be referrals and word of mouth. When clients share their experiences or recommend my services to friends and family, it reinforces the relationship driven foundation my business is built upon. Whether someone is ready to plan, collaborate, learn, or simply stay connected, I am grateful for every opportunity to build community and help more families experience vacations that feel intentional, supported, and memorable.
