Exploring Life & Business with Erika Radis

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Erika Radis.

Erika Radis

Hi Erika, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Back in early 2019, Working Moms of San Antonio was just a spark of an idea. I was juggling the chaos of the real estate world while navigating the joys (and challenges!) of motherhood with my young kids. Like so many women out there, I really craved connection with other working moms in San Antonio, both for friendship and business support. But when I turned to my trusty Facebook groups for guidance, I found there just weren’t a ton of options out there for working moms.

It was then that I decided I wanted to create the community I was searching for. After sharing my frustration with the lack of local support, I teamed up with my good friend and local lender, Marie Lifschultz, and we began the Working Moms of San Antonio Facebook Group. We initially thought we might get 50 members, which would be enough to foster genuine connections. Fast forward to today, and we’re blown away by the 6,500+ incredible women who call our group home.

When I saw how many San Antonio working moms were interested in our supportive community, I knew I needed to try adding more value for our members. We launched a podcast featuring the stories of San Antonio moms, opened our blog for guest authors, and even introduced a searchable Mom-Owned Business Directory on our website.

Our newest (and my favorite) venture is our Working Moms of San Antonio Business Owners Membership, where we host monthly networking events and business workshops and provide time-saving resources to help our local moms in business thrive.

My mission is to reach and support as many amazing San Antonio working moms as possible, and I look forward to continuing to do that in the future!

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like many businesses, we hit some bumps during the pandemic. Suddenly, our in-person meetups were off the table, and we had to get creative to stay connected with our members.

We ended up having some virtual events over Zoom. While it wasn’t quite the same as our lively in-person get-togethers, it was our way of reaching out and checking in with those who wanted to participate. We wanted to see how everyone was coping with the challenges of the pandemic.

I did find solace in these virtual chats. Even though it was through a screen, connecting with the ladies and hearing their stories helped make everything feel a little more normal during such a tough time. So, while COVID threw us a curveball, we adapted and tried to keep our community spirit alive, one Zoom call at a time.

As you know, we’re big fans of Working Moms of San Antonio. For our readers who might not be as familiar with the brand, what can you tell them about it?
I would love to talk about the magic of Working Moms of San Antonio (WMSA) and why it’s an amazing support hub for local working moms.

I think, most importantly, we get it here at WMSA. We understand that each of our members is on a unique journey in their career and motherhood, which is why we’ve curated resources to cater to their diverse needs and goals. Whether they’re looking for the latest events and opportunities or seeking inspiration from our blog and podcast filled with local stories of resilience, at Working Moms of San Antonio, there’s something for everyone.

We also recognize the fierce entrepreneurial spirit within our community, and so WMSA rolled out the Business Owners Community Membership. This isn’t just any membership; it’s tailor-made for San Antonio working moms in business and features top-notch support, networking, business workshops, and a spotlight for showcasing their amazing businesses!

Now, what I really think makes WMSA shine is its heart — the unwavering sense of community. It’s a place where victories are cheered on, challenges are tackled as a team, and every single member is supported. This is not about navigating the wild ride of career and motherhood alone; it’s about doing it together!

There are countless aspects of Working Moms of San Antonio that fill me with pride. Still, if I had to pick one, it’s those moments when a member shares something like, “I never thought I could network with kids, or I didn’t know how to put myself out there to meet new people, but I found the courage to step out, and I’m so grateful I did.”

These stories they’re the ones that truly make my heart sing because I’ve been there myself. Those moments of empowerment and bravery remind me why we do what we do.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Looking back, I’ve always been a bit of a social butterfly. Back in school, they’d politely tell my parents I was “social” (translation: I talked a lot in class). Turns out that chatty personality has served me pretty well, both in the real estate world and in building Working Moms of San Antonio. So, no complaints here!

I’ve always been an avid reader — it’s still one of my passions. I also spent most of my youth kicking a soccer ball around until high school, and I dove into the working world at 15. So, really, I guess I’ve always liked to keep busy!

Growing up in a household where my dad ran his businesses, I knew early on that I wanted to follow in his footsteps. The idea of being my boss, of having my earnings reflect my hard work. It just made sense to me. And here I am, on this journey that feels like it was meant to be.
