Exploring Life & Business with Dennis Moore of Buggy Barn Museum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Moore. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Dennis Moore is a 5th generation Blanconian, and his love for authentic western carriages, wagons, buggies, and chuck wagons began when he was just a young boy as he dreamed of the old west. Over the years, that dream has become a reality. His collection of carriages began modestly, with a few vis-a-vis that he did proms and weddings, and then started collecting a few more and getting into the film industry. He then had a decent-sized collection and decided that he needed to share these with others, so he and his wife, Kelly, opened the Buggy Barn Museum in 2011. His passion and hobby turned into a reality and a business, and he now has over 200 buggies, carriages, and wagons in his collection. People worldwide come to visit the Buggy Barn Museum, and his buggies are used in different movies, television series, commercials, and parades. Long after creating the Buggy Barn Museum, Dennis decided to build an old west town behind the museum. His love for the old west was about to come to life with the development of Pine Moore Old West Studio. This old west studio is a fully functional town including a bank front, saloon, church, homestead room, mercantile room, gallows, cemetery, saddle shop, Texas Rangers headquarters with a jail cell, 1800s cabin, meeting room with kitchen, wardrobe room, a 3,000 sq ft event center, and dentist and barber room. There are props in each room as well. Dennis wanted to make this a “one-stop shop,” so we have the wagons, town, props, and horses. People from all over the world have come to film here with us for films, music videos, commercials, and television documentaries. We are always looking for ways to expand, improve and grow. Dennis works closely with his daughter, Amanda Smith, the manager and coordinator of the museum and old west town. We also have a great team at the museum to keep things running smoothly.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a challenging road, just like any other business. Every business has ups and downs, but passion keeps you going. There is a lot of upkeep to keep the museum and town going, like when we have storms, fixing broken pipes, windows, doors, boards, etc. Also, maintenance to the buildings. Especially in the first years, when we were just getting started, many people needed to learn what or who we were, so visitors were fluctuating, but now it has picked up quite steadily, and we have people from all over the world visiting. We still do a yearly fundraiser, and all the money goes back into the museum to help make improvements and with maintenance. There will always be struggles in a business, but there will always be blessings along the way, and we choose to look towards the blessings more than the struggles.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Buggy Barn Museum?
We have over 200 unique buggies, carriages, wagons, and an old west town; we also provide these buggies and carriages for feature films. Dennis works in the film industry and provides his carriages for movies such as the remake of True Grit; There Will Be Blood, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, 1883, Killers of the Flower Moon, and many more! Dennis works in the film industry as a wrangler, so that you can see him in these movies too! He has been in many films, commercials, and television series. Not only does he provide horses and wagons, but he also works in transportation. His daughter, Amanda, works in the film industry, working together in several films. What stands out about our business is Dennis’s knowledge about the wagons and buggies and the work ethic that he can bring to any situation. Whether you are renting one of his wagons for a film or renting his film studio, you will get the best quality.

What are your plans for the future?
Our plans for the future include continued growth and expansion. We want to make Buggy Barn Museum one of America’s top tourist and filming destinations. We always look for ways to improve and make things more exciting and interesting here, so our wheels constantly turn on plans and projects.
