Exploring Life & Business with Brenda Vera of SoulVera Body Mind Wellness PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Vera.

Brenda Vera

Hi Brenda, We are so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Brenda Vera, and I’m Mexican. I have been living in the city of San Antonio for half of my life, most of the time in the north side area. I’m 39 years old. I emigrated to San Antonio when I was 17 years old. I got married when I was very young. I had my son Victor Alexander, who is now 18 years old and about to graduate from Johnson High School. I have been a divorced woman for almost 9 years. In all these years as a single mom, I have been working as a housekeeping and server; I worked at a bridal boutique.

In 2021, I obtained my Massage Therapist License in Texas, where I discovered my passion for helping others alleviate their muscular ailments and stress. The most rewarding part of being a massage therapist is helping those in pain recover from injury or stress. Since I graduated, I have been committed to pursuing my goal of establishing my practice, SoulVera Body Mind Wellness PLLC. Embarking on this new adventure as a woman, mother, and entrepreneur and becoming the owner of my own business in this land of opportunities fills me with great excitement and gratitude. I am an entrepreneurial woman with dreams and more goals; I do not seek to impress but rather to evolve and improve every day. My son Alex (his nickname at home) is the biggest part of my story. He has been my motor and my support. I am so blessed to have him as my son. He is a beautiful soul, and I’m so proud of him for being a good young man with excellent grades and a competitive athlete for his school. I dedicated my achievements to him. I decided to go to school and get my license to a professional when I was 38yrs old and a year later to have my practice because he deserves a mom to whom he can brag about (A funny thing between my son and I is that I always call him my favorite son he always remembers me that he’s my only child that’s why.). (My favorite food to eat is pasta. I love pasta. It always brings me peace; my favorite way to relax is at home, watching a movie, eating pasta, and having a glass of red wine. I love chocolate and UI, so I do cardio in the morning. I like to explore my city, play tourists, discover new local restaurants, things to do, etc.).

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my Challenges (but never an obstacle) is that when I went to school to take classes in English for massage therapists, it was tough for me since Spanish is still my first language. It was like learning a new language, taking tons of notes, then coming home to use Google Translate until late studying. Back in that time, I was working as a server in a restaurant on the River Walk night shift, and on weekends, I remember I was going to class in the mornings and then changing in the bathroom into my work clothes and heading straight to work, there were days in a row where I didn’t see my son were leaving in the same house (he was 17) challenges.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I have continuously enhanced my skills by undertaking continuing education courses and obtaining certifications in various techniques. Concurrently, I offer a range of services, including Deep Tissue Massage, Swedish, Sports, Stretches, Rotator Cuff Pain Relief, Cupping Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage Massage, and my more recent certification obtained In Kinesiology Taping. One of the courses I’m looking forward to taking next year is Medical Massage Practitioner.
