Today we’d like to introduce you to Amina Thomas.
Amina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Nourish’d Seeds LLC started with a simple belief: that fresh, healthy food should be accessible to every neighborhood—not just the most affluent ones. I launched this produce distribution business to bridge the gap between small local farmers and the communities that need them most.
My background is rooted in both community organizing and a deep respect for local agriculture. I saw firsthand how food insecurity, lack of access to grocery stores, and rising health issues disproportionately affected underserved communities- Especially on the East Side of San Antonio. At the same time, I was inspired by local growers, many of them women or farmers of color, who were working hard but struggling to find stable distribution channels.
Nourish’d Seeds began as a small idea—selling produce directly from local farms at markets and online. Over time, we’ve expanded to include three pickup locations at Nothing I Can’t Handle Coffee in Southtown, Black Rifle Coffee Company in Live Oak, and Folklores in Beacon Hill.
What’s kept us going is the support from the community and a mission rooted in equity, sustainability, and wellness. Every watermelon we deliver, every market we attend, and every family we nourish is part of a bigger vision—one where food is a tool for healing, empowerment, and connection.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—starting something new rarely is. One of the biggest challenges has been introducing a new concept and helping both producers and customers understand the value of what we’re doing. At first, many small farmers and producers were unsure about the idea of wholesale orders. It took time to build trust and demonstrate that this model could actually support their businesses. Thankfully, many of them have caught on, and we’ve built real momentum in a short amount of time.
As a solopreneur, it’s also been tough to be everywhere at once—especially when multiple farmers markets or events happen on the same day. I’m constantly balancing logistics, partnerships, and operations with limited capacity.
Another challenge has been navigating relationships and facing skepticism. Because Nourish’d Seeds is a fresh concept, not everyone immediately understood or supported the vision. Some folks have been burned in the past by companies that used terms like “local” or “organic” loosely, so there’s a layer of rebuilding trust in those words.
There’s also a big education component. Many people simply don’t know what’s grown locally or when it’s in season. Part of my role has become helping folks reconnect with their food—where it comes from, who grows it, and why it matters. It’s a challenge, but it’s also one of the most rewarding parts of this work.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Nourish’d Seeds LLC is a produce distribution company with a mission: to make fresh, local food more accessible, while supporting the small farms that grow it. What sets us apart is that we focus exclusively on local produce—sourced directly from nearby farmers, many of whom are women, people of color, and first-generation growers. We’re not just offering produce—we’re offering transparency, trust, and a stronger local food system.
We specialize in curated produce aggregation, pre-orders for seasonal items, and pickup at community-centered locations like local coffee shops and farmers markets. Our customers know they’re getting the freshest, most nutrient-dense food available, grown right here in Texas and picked at peak ripeness—not trucked in from hundreds of miles away.
What I’m most proud of is the community we’re building. People are starting to see Nourish’d Seeds as more than just a service—they see it as a movement that’s changing the way we think about food access, equity, and sustainability. We’re also helping our partner farms grow—literally—by giving them a reliable way to reach new customers and plan their crops with more confidence.
For anyone reading, I want you to know: Nourish’d Seeds is here to nourish more than just your body. We’re here to support farmers, uplift communities, and reconnect people to the land and each other—one produce order at a time.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always curious, determined, and full of energy. I loved being outside—climbing trees, exploring nature, and looking for any kind of adventure I could find. I’ve always been drawn to the natural world, which definitely planted the early seeds (pun intended) for the work I do now.
I was also super inquisitive—I wanted to know how everything worked. I loved animals, asked a million questions, and was obsessed with learning new things. When the Internet became accessible, I was completely infatuated with Google. I’d spend hours looking things up, just fascinated by the idea that I could learn anything with a few clicks.
