Hi Velida, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I come from Bosnia, where my life was shaped by war, loss, and resilience. Coming to the United States meant starting over from nothing—new language, new culture, and many uncertainties. What carried me forward was my work ethic, faith, and the belief that honest work has dignity. Sewing became more than a skill; it became a way to rebuild my life and create stability. Through years of hard work, patience, and perseverance, that skill grew into Golden Lily Alterations. Today, I am proud to serve women during some of the most important moments of their lives. My journey has taught me that even from the hardest beginnings, something meaningful and beautiful can be created with dedication and heart.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Starting over in a new country came with many challenges—learning a new language, adapting to a different culture, and building trust from the ground up. There were times when resources were limited, self-doubt was real, and the workload felt overwhelming. As a small business owner, I had to learn everything on my own, often through trial and error. However, those struggles shaped my resilience and strengthened my values. Each obstacle taught me patience, humility, and perseverance, and they ultimately laid the foundation for the business I have today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and lead seamstress of Golden Lily Alterations, where I specialize in bridal and formal wear alterations. My work goes beyond fitting garments—I focus on precision, structure, and honoring the original design while tailoring each piece to the individual body. I am especially known for detailed bridal alterations, complex fittings, and for taking on dresses that others consider too difficult.
What I am most proud of is the trust my clients place in me during some of the most important moments of their lives. Many of my clients come to me through word of mouth, which means everything to me. What sets me apart is my approach: I treat every garment as if it were my own and every client with patience, honesty, and respect. My background and life experiences have taught me the value of hard work, integrity, and care, and those values are sewn into every piece I create or alter. Uh
