Today we’d like to introduce you to Uzair Iqbal
Hi Uzair, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Indus Occasions was inspired by our cousin named Noreen Iqbal who runs a wedding decorations company called Occasions by Bali based in Tampa, Florida. For years we had been inspired by her incredible work throughout Southeast US and she had encouraged my family and I for years to open a wedding decorations company in San Antonio. In Sep 2023, my mom Samina Iqbal rented out our gold and white sofa for a wedding. We bought that sofa for my wedding earlier that year in May 2023 with the intention of being able to rent it out later. That night on Sep 2023 – with our cousin Noreen’s encouragement ringing in our brain and seeing the potential of wedding decorations business while renting out our sofa, we decided to take a leap and start a business. The name Indus comes from the Indus Valley in Pakistan and we wanted to bring that cultural heritage and knowledge to couples in San Antonio. Since then, we have done furniture rentals, mehndi, nikkah, wedding, valima, birthday, baby shower, banquet decorations across Texas. Since our sofa rental in 2023, we have become a one-stop for all wedding services including: halal catering, DJ, venue search, make-up artists, henna artists and more. Our understanding of Pakistani and Indian culture along with a wide array of services offered is what separates us from other decorators and event planners in Central Texas. Indus Occasions began in 2023, but our family has been based in San Antonio since 2005 and we hope to serve our neighbors and fellow Texans for many years to come.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Marketing our services and work has been challenging. It takes a lot to market a business nowadays, with the traditional marketing strategies gone, social media and word of mouth are the best ways to grow our business. We have received clients from posting on WhatsApp, social media and even making connections with venues showcasing our decorations. However, creating the best content showcasing our work is challenging because they require a lot of time. Furthermore, keeping connections with venue’s sales managers is challenging too due to constant turnover in the staff.

Indus Occasions are a one-stop for all wedding services. We specialize in Pakistani and Indian Mehndi, Sangeet, Nikkah, Wedding and Valima decorations. What sets us apart is the ability to offer many wedding related services in one stop such as; halal catering, DJs, make-up artists, henna artists, venue search and more. We are especially known for our mehndi decorations which are colorful and festive and bring joy to lots of people. We even utilize some handmade decoration pieces imported from Pakistan.

We are a women and minority owned small family company based in San Antonio, Texas and we work throughout Texas. No event is too small or too big for us as we bring joy to our clients on their most memorable occasion.
