Today we’d like to introduce you to Tavia Hartley Fisher
Hi Tavia Hartley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from esthetics school and became a licensed esthetician in 2012, I’ve done a little bit of everything in the esthetics world but always came back to body waxing. In 2019, I was working for a popular waxing franchise, for a few years at that point, and I was very unhappy & overworked. That year, I decided to take the leap to start my own solo waxing business!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was very fortunate to become fully booked within two months of starting my business in 2019. I credit that success to social media outreach & cultivating genuine relationships with the women who come in to get services with me.
I am so grateful for the clients who have stuck by me throughout the past 5 years. My husband is military, with that comes moving around and deployments. From 2020-2023 I traveled back & forth between states every month to service my San Antonio clientele. After that, I took some time off to set up my business and home in Nevada. Just this October, I decided to start traveling back to San Antonio again to see my clients!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed esthetician, specializing in full body waxing and lash lifts. My popular services are Brazilian waxes and lash lifts.
I’m most proud of the close relationships I have established with my clients. What I do is so much more than just “waxing”. Each appointment can turn into a little therapy session. We laugh together, sometimes cry together, celebrate and commiserate together… I am proud that the energy I give out to them is received in a way that makes them feel safe & comfortable with me.
What sets me apart from others is that I am able to still maintain that connection with my clients even if I have to go months without seeing them. I remember the little details of what’s going on in their lives. And once we are in my suite together, we pick up right where we left off.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
It’s funny because I don’t label myself as a “risk-taker” at all. To be honest, I tend to be an over-thinker and an overall anxious person. But to have your own business, whatever that business is, you are a risk-taker. It is essential to take risks to obtain the things you truly want. Everything we want is on the other side of fear and comfort!
I think it’s difficult for most of us, myself included, to bet on ourselves when self-doubt and imposter syndrome creep in. But what I’ve learned is that you have to let those negative feelings pass.
What’s the worst that can happen? You fail? That’s okay. Better than a “what-if”. Get delusional about your goals, put in the hard work, do it scared, and take the risk! You will always be rewarded. My business is the outcome of taking a risk.
