Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Hawkins.
Hi Sydney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always felt that I view the world through a different point of view. Not until I received my first Sony digital camera at 10 years old did I realize how true it was. Since I was 10 I have had 3 cameras and 3 phone cameras that helped cultivate me in my self taught photography journey. I truly enjoy seeing people smile and capturing raw, authentic moments. Included in that is also capturing nature, street, food, sports. I enjoy capturing anything and everything. Ask my current phone how many pictures I have… over 70,000. That’s not including the number of photos I’ve taken since 10. It has been in the last few years that I have taken a more serious approach in photography as conducting a business. As I’m learning the more technical side to running a photography business a new found growth has seemed to produce. Networking with other photography enthusiasts, advertising, partnering with other businesses and meeting amazing people along the way has all been a major blessing to my success so far. Now, I never want to leave the fact that photography is a hobby first before it is a business. I love taking pictures and I don’t want to lose that passion ever.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
So far yes it has been smooth. Only obstacles I can truly think of is that I still work a regular job and scheduling photoshoots around that has a little bit of a hassle. Thankfully I’ve been able to manage fine.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a House Manager by day and photographer by night. Just kidding! Well not really it is partially true. When I’m not taking care of children I am a Portrait and Minimalist photographer. I do enjoy dabbling in other forms of photography as well. I’m usually most proud of any piece that brings me joy. It could be a photograph of a tree, the sky, a person, or even food. I believe the 2 biggest things that set me apart from others is my ability to photograph children because of my 9 years experience in the childcare field and how affordable I am. Many parents enjoy getting family portraits and sibling photos because of the endless patience I possess. I choose to have affordable pricing because I am self taught and I know how expensive most photographers are. So, for those who don’t mind using their local photographer then I make sure they are accommodated well.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I actually don’t believe in luck. I believe there is a purpose and reason for everything in life. My faith in Jesus Christ is the reason why 10 year old Sydney is where she is today! He knew the small camera she got on her 10th birthday would bless her tremendously as an adult. Luck could never orchestrate someone’s life that perfectly.
