Daily Inspiration: Meet Stephanie Rios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Rios.

Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my art journey many years ago. As a Cake Artist to make extra income while being a stay at home mom. But, after the passing of my beloved grandfather. Whom was a very important person in my life. Left me heartbroken and took away that passion I had for creating. I decided this was no longer for me! But as time went by, I needed an outlet to help me mentally. I was introduced into acrylic painting. I found it calming & it helped me to concentrate differently. At the time I lived in California where the Mexican culture is proudly recognized. I fell in love with the tradition of Dia de Los Muertos, to honor passed loved ones. This was where my inspiration came from. My grandfather’s passing is still very much a sensitive topic I hope to have the courage to speak about one day. But for now I will continue to create beautiful things. Currently I showcase my work locally at The ARTitude Cottage in downtown New Braunfels. Also at Wimberley Market Days & Day of the Dead-NB. I have also collaborated with Mexi Boutique to carry my handcrafted jewelry at her market popups locally and throughout Austin, Boerne & San Antonio.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As an Artist dealing with grief, is a struggle. The hardest part for me is not the actual art piece(s). Its the vulnerability of putting myself out there for others to see what I have created. Along with finding the right vendor markets that best support my work.
I’m also not great with social media. Cus honestly I rather be painting or working with clay then creating content.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the artist, creative and owner of Artsy Steff. I enjoy working with different art mediums like acrylic paint, polymer clay, ceramic resin and handcrafted wood pieces (with the help of my husband). My art focus is Mexican/Hispanic Culture inspired pieces, but I am always open to other art styles per request.
I am most proud of myself for allowing art to be my passion again, after being in such a dark place. Creating is my mental therapy. It has been an important part of my healing journey and a blessing. I put my heart & soul into each piece I create! I am often referred to by others for customized ofrendas/alters. So
I hope to one day have my own studio/store. Where people join a class to get creative with me and of course shop!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very shy. Still somewhat of an introvert now.
Didn’t like to be in the spotlight. Had a big interest in music & drawing. Art class was always my favorite.
