Daily Inspiration: Meet Sophia Arnold

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Arnold.

Hi Sophia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’d like to think that little 5-year-old Sophia would be amazed at the art I create now! I’d like to thank my oldest brother, my grade school art teachers, my fellow artists, and my loving fiancé and his family. They all support me to keep creating, even when I felt like I had no creative juices in my body.

Now I’m almost 24, doing commissions, making meaningful artwork for people, and myself. This is something I never thought I’d be doing, and I won’t ever stop doing it. I’m enjoying the journey most of all.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an artist? A smooth road you ask? Yes and no… Yes, it’s a smooth road to create art because you just do it. You don’t even have to necessarily finish a piece of art. Just the act of doing it is a success because every doodle, every random idea, is progress and experience in your craft. Also, No, because creating art and getting it out to where people can actually see it? That’s where the trial and error comes in.

Being your own advertising team. It can be stressful especially when you have bills to pay. And I know I could go work for some corporation for more financial stability. I just can’t get myself to go back to that once I left. Trying to force myself to think in a way I don’t, a box I don’t fit.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am creative, I think of art as journaling without words. My style is vibrant, feminine, and eye-catching. The mediums I work in most often are acrylic paint, marker, color pencil, and digital.

What sets me apart? My art is an extension of myself. It’s my expression, it’s releasing my emotions into a physical form. My style incorporates nature, spirituality, and women. I love all those aspects of myself so I incorporate them into my art! My art evolves as I do. Back in like 2012, I was drawing solely animals!

What matters most to you?
Expressing oneself and not hiding what makes you different matters most to me.

I came from a household that didn’t encourage a deeper understanding of one’s emotions. My dad would say “feelings are overrated.” So no one growing up really cared about what I was going through emotionally, because they didn’t know how to care about their own emotions. So I spent a lot of time alone drawing in my room to avoid the household chaos.

Now that I’m on my own I realized how important expression is. Avoiding what I call emotional constipation. Finding creative outlets, and having people to talk to that you trust and make you feel cared for is so important!
