Daily Inspiration: Meet Sherry Stevener

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry Stevener.

Hi Sherry, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Sherry Stevener has spent a lifetime building things that last—businesses, spaces, and experiences rooted in both practicality and beauty.
After earning a degree in advertising from the University of Texas, she began her career in agencies and publishing before launching her own direct mail and newsletter company. What started as a small venture grew into a thriving business that, remarkably, is still operating more than four decades later—serving clients across the country.
But her work has never been confined to one lane.
Alongside her marketing career, Stevener developed a passion for restoring and creating spaces with history and character. In Dallas, she renovated older buildings and constructed new ones using reclaimed materials—projects that reflected her belief that the past can be both preserved and reimagined.
That philosophy came to life in 2015, when she and her family acquired land in the Texas Hill Country and began developing what is now Canyon Peaks Ranch. Over time, the property evolved into a thoughtfully designed retreat, featuring a primary residence, four guest cottages, and a relocated 1906 home saved from demolition in Austin.
Today, Stevener continues to shape Canyon Peaks Ranch as both a personal sanctuary and a place to gather—an extension of a lifelong pattern of creating something meaningful, enduring, and entirely her own.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle in publishing is hiring good employees and keeping them. I’m proud to say our lead manager has been with us 28 years. At Canyon Peaks Ranch, there is always something to do/fix/plant/repair/buy — keeping up with over 100 acres is a big job and help is a scarce in the country! We do what we can and call it exercise.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What excites me the most is seeing a beautiful piece of building material — be it a door, window, cabinetry, or even a carved staircase — and thinking “how and where could I use that?” I’m a Facebook marketplace troll. At least half of everything in my creations is reclaimed. They just don’t make things today like they used to. We build 2 barn to store the material during construction, and we still have ample double-hung weighted windows, charming doors, cabinetry, and a collection of stained glass waiting for the next project. People used to say, oh, you’re like Joanna Gaines, to which I replied, she’s more like. my daughter. I’ve been doing this since the 1980’s!
