Today we’d like to introduce you to Sebastian Isaac Vela
Hi Sebastian Isaac, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Sebastian Isaac Vela here, Im 30 years old, born and raised in South Texas. A Premont Texas native, Born to the amazing Maria Elisa Cortez and the late Jose Isaac Vela. My foundation was built on faith, music, and the arts. Coming from a home where my grandparents Ernesto and Esmeralda Cortez were wondrously talented in Music. My parents both being artists of multiple mediums, the dreams in my household were colorful and bursting at the seems. I was taught that no matter the talent or dedication, seeking God first and allowing him to have my heart was the most important commitment i could ever make. At a young age i had the liberty to express myself creatively without limitations, my family loving me whole heartedly was the foundation that nurtured the now fearless and purposeful mindset i now have. From designing my ornate Mariachi Trajes for performances , doing my grandmothers hair and makeup, painting murals on the walls of my mother’s home. Creative expression and borderless artistry was something i knew well. Determined to live in the big city to pursue my art and music was the anticipation leading to what i believed to be true success. Getting accepted into the School of the Art Institute of Chicago was the highlight of my life at 21 years old. Little did i know God had a different path he needed me to embark on. Leaving the big city only a year after my enrollment, i felt as if my big break was robbed from me, moving back to my hometown with my head down and a medley of wrong choices over the next few years, i failed. (So i thought) You see that’s the thing about God, once you’ve hit rick bottom you are forced to look up at him, in those moments of loneliness and anxiety. All i wanted was his presence and to be in a space where others believed, even if I couldn’t completely understand what he was doing in my life. I wanted my “But God,” moment.
But God, had plans to root me, and mature me, and open my heart and eyes to see even more beauty and unlock limitless creativity that i could ever imagine. I mean what better artist to have an apprenticeship under, than Him. Wow. The closer i got to him the more meaningful my artistry became, As a singer, a painter, and soon to be photographer. Picking up my first camera in 2017 and posting up flyers around school was the beginning of Sebastian Isaac Photography. Over the next * years, Priding myself in his presence through every shoot and ensuring that i am able to share his light with every single client I encounter. The creative directing from mood boards together with wardrobe, hair & makeup, locations. It a creative journey i look forward to with each and every client. Going through several styles of photography i am now in one the proudest and most confident eras of my artistry. Incorporating multiple mediums and interpretations , this is more than just a photoshoot. It’s truly a moment to create and capture the essence of who you are. I have been so blessed to have the opportunity to travel and to work with clients from all over throughout the years. Allowing the beauty from cultures, different regions, and family traditions to be inspire my work. My artistry not only strives to capture the photos that are timeless, but create an environment that will allow you to feel like the best version of yourself. A creative journey we will experience with one another, celebrating you, and creating memories that you get to look back on for a lifetime. I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely a bumpy road:
-not feeling good enough
-comparing myself to others ( so many styles of photography)
-mental health road blocks
-health obstacles
– creative road blocks ( when attempting to fit in the norm, and not express myself through t my work.)

Currently the medium i pursue actively is my music and photography, known for a dreamy and romantic setting. Capturing the rawness and essence of a moment. Constantly pushing the borders with low exposure, inspired by photographers like : Edward Steichen, Imogen Cunningham and Edward Weston. Im definitely most proud of the creative expression my clientele allow me to have and the role of my faith in my work. Incorporating textography on some pieces of work and implementing scripture.
