Today we’d like to introduce you to Sari Julissa.
Hi Sari, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a makeup artist from South Texas, now based in San Antonio. My journey began in middle school when I became known for always wearing makeup and experimenting with bold looks after school, which I shared on social media. By my freshman year of high school, people started asking me to do makeup for quinceañeras and family events, and that’s when I began charging for my work.
What started at $45 a face grew into a full business over the past eight years, now priced at $115 per client. For a long time, my success came through word of mouth in my small town, but after moving to San Antonio, I shifted my focus to building a stronger social media presence and elevating the quality of my content. Today, my goal is to continue refining every part of my business while growing as both an artist and entrepreneur.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been navigating an increasingly oversaturated industry. As more people entered the space, learning not to compare myself to others became difficult, especially when social media highlighted artists with fewer years of experience but larger followings. Those moments of discouragement taught me to refocus on my craft, trust my journey, and prioritize long-term growth over comparison.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a traveling makeup artist with nearly eight years of experience, best known for soft glam and full glam looks that enhance natural features. My work focuses on elevated, wearable beauty rather than editorial or special-effects makeup. Alongside artistry, I’ve developed strong skills in photography, videography, and content editing, allowing me to market my work creatively and authentically. I’m most proud of balancing the growth of my business while pursuing my MBA, proving that discipline and creativity can thrive together.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’m the oldest of five children and have always been extremely close to my mom — I was, and still am, a true mommy’s girl. Growing up, I felt a strong sense of responsibility to be a good example for my younger siblings, especially academically, because I wanted to make my family proud. I took AP courses and college classes while still in high school, and I’ve always valued quality over quantity when it came to friendships, the few close friends I had growing up are still in my life today. I was naturally quiet in crowded rooms but more outgoing in smaller, familiar spaces, balancing both introverted and extroverted traits.
