Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Cardenas.
Hi Sam, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am Sam Cardenas I am 22 going on 23 years old and I’ve been playing guitar since I was eight years old, with a wide variety of influences from rock, jazz, Latin, blues, etc. Guitar has always been my outlet and I use it as my driving force as the catalyst of my social identity.
My first inspiration was Carlos Santana, the combination of his melodies/world music really struck me at a young age and still captivates me today. The diversity that Santana inspired me with, it led me to improvise to a lot of other different styles as well.
As I got older, I started getting influenced by guys like John Mayer, Los Lonely Boys, Paco de Lucia, SRV, etc. With a combination of dedicated practice/musical diversity, I created a pathway and a vision based on holistic consistency to get to where I am today.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part, I have always known my worth, and have always been in the highest standing in my craft. The biggest thing for me was knowing how to get certain guitar tones, and optimizing that when playing with a band.
Once I upgraded my amp/tone, the rest was a piece of cake because the tone is an easy thing to fix. At the end of the day, the guitar doesn’t lie. From a professional standpoint, the biggest goal for me is to get out of San Antonio and venture out to Austin or Houston to gain proper exposure.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am Sam Cardenas, Guitarist, and Singer/Songwriter. I’ve been playing guitar since I was eight years old and base myself on a consistent social media platform, along with outside gigging. I’ve had success with both social media and playing in a live music setting.
I’ve managed to reach over 3k, and 1ok views on a couple of my youtube videos, am being followed by the big named artists on social media, and have networked with some quality musicians in my area, along with starting a band of my own now. I am most proud of the consistency I’ve had with uploading new content to my music pages, along with the exposure I’ve gotten at a young age.
What sets me apart from others is the skill and diversity that I bring to the table with my guitar playing. I also practice on a very structured basis, which keeps me grounded on my pathway to success.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was when I got my first electric guitar because that’s when I knew even from a young age that music was going to be the biggest part of my social identity.
