Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew & Melody Alvarez.
Matthew & Melody, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Back in 2014 we remodeled a single family property (with minimal prior experience) as part of a family affair. We discovered that we really enjoyed this type of work and decided to start doing minor remodels part time including handyman work. Over the years we’ve had gains and losses but the most important part of our business is making sure the client is not just satisfied, but happy with their experience with M&M. We quickly learned that general contractors in San Antonio had gained a bad reputation, unfortunately due to inexperienced and dishonest people claiming to be professionals. 80% of our work used to come from clients who had either fired their general contractors or was left with a mess of a project to finish due to abandonment and stolen money. We have been able to successfully remediate every project we’ve acquired over the past 15 years with our clients graciously sharing our work with friends and neighbors. Now in 2025, 95% of our clients are from word of mouth advertising. We work closely with realtors from different statewide companies including Coldwell Banker, EXP Realty, Encore Realty, & Keller Williams; just to name a few. We take pride in our work and believe that putting God first in our business and staying humble is the key to success.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With any business you expect some losses, however you don’t what you don’t know. We’ve learned from our mistakes and have also been able to keep our company in fantastic standings because we always do what’s right. Even if that means humbling ourselves and admitting fault. Thankfully we have the experience and knowledge to know now how to overcome those obstacles.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a local family owned home builder and remodeler. We specialize in kitchen and restroom remodels however we thoroughly enjoy new residential and commercial builds. We are known mainly for the customer service and attention to detail in our work but also the fact that we have one project manager, myself. I am the main point of contact for all projects and usually we have 5-10 projects going at a time. What sets us apart is we are licensed with the City of San Antonio, I’m personally accredited with the International Code Council for building codes, and are part of the Greater San Antonio Builders Association.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Be honest and accountable. Where there seems to be no way God will make a way.
