Daily Inspiration: Meet Mariajose Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariajose Garcia.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Started back in March 2019 – with a dream of having my own business, a place for kids and families to stop by, have fun while eating a fresh paleta. I wanted to make the experience as joyful as possible. For people to decorate (add toppings) their paleta. We started with our shop, and now we also do corporate events, farmers markets, cart rentals, and we even have different points of sale around the city, where you can find our paletas at other local businesses.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
COVID!!!! Two weeks before our first anniversary, Covid hit! We had to accomodate to what the city and health laws were stating for that time. We offered a set weekly scheduled deliveries around the city, and people were amazing and supported our business while we didn’t know what was going to happen.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Bachelor’s in Management, and MBA in International Business. I have worked at different big companies in the city, like Valero Energo, Alliance Bernstein, etc. Decided to take a risk and start my own business.

Holy Pops is not just a regular paleteria. We make all of our paletas from scratch and handmade. We do not use any aritificial flavors, as all of our paletas are made fresh and with natural ingredients. A side of that, we offer unique gourmet flavors, that you won’t find anywhere else around the city.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being open to change. Things change constantly, so we need to keep making changes and moving along with what people are looking for and needing. Also, always stay humbled, and work for your business!
