Today we’d like to introduce you to Maja Koziara.
Hi Maja, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up I’ve always had an interest in fashion. When I attended graduate school in Poland, I enrolled in fashion school which is where I expanded my interest in the field. After graduating, I began working a professional job in the corporate world. The corporate world paid the bills, but I wanted to continue my interest in fashion in a professional setting. This is when I started to work as a personal stylist in my spare time advising individual clients with personal shopping, color analysis, wardrobe consultations, and styling for photo shoots.
Now I am in the US for nearly a year with my husband and I want to continue my passion with clients in the US. It took me some time to get adjusted to living in the US with a different cultural background and English as my second language, but I did it! I first started working as a volunteer at Dress For Success, a non-profit organization here in San Antonio. Dress for Success San Antonio targets the needs of low-income women by promoting economic security and self-sufficiency to break the chains of generational poverty through job preparation, employment retention, and career development programs.
Working with the women in Dress gave me some experience I needed working with American clientele. I am very grateful for this experience as it increased my confidence working with women of different cultural backgrounds and improved my English speaking skills.
While I was adjusting to San Antonio, I stumbled upon a group called Babes Support Babes (BSB), and have been a member for several months where I have been finding inspiration to start my own brand. Babes Support Babes is the leading women’s community for transformational growth through deep, powerful friendships. As a member of BSB, you can find deep friendships with creative, uniquely gifted, and passion-filled women who encourage one another to dream big. Through monthly meet-ups, workshops, and book clubs, BSB empowers each member to find friendships with their fellow BSB sisters that will empower them to pursue their passions.
I have recently started up my brand ByMaja.org and I am offering fashion, color analysis, and personal shopping services.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In general, it has been a smooth road. People here in Texas are really friendly and they immediately make you feel right at home. That’s what I love about San Antonio! There have been some challenges for me of course. I had to adapt to a completely new reality. Switching from kilometers to feet, centimeters to inches, etc. wasn’t easy! But I am doing my best to adjust to the new setting.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I am developing my business related to fashion. I work as a personal stylist and color analyst. If you would like to discover your best colors and find a new style I am here to help! I work with individual clients and business owners. The thing I am most proud of is that despite the fact that I am in a foreign country, I still follow my passion and I pursue my dreams. I hope everything will work out! As a European, I have a different approach to fashion and I think that I can bring great value to my clients. They can use my suggestions and see their outfits and styles from a different perspective.
What sets me apart from others is my positive energy and attitude. I also love beautiful things and I really focus on aesthetics. When I work on something I always give 110%. I strive to do my best and achieve the final results to satisfy my clients.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think the future of fashion will be more sustainable and more ecological. We can see that there are more and more companies that focus on the sustainability of their production and I think that’s great. The world is changing and people pay more attention to the composition of fabrics and how they were produced. Price is still important but there are other factors that focus on. (sustainability, eco.)
I think second hands and thrift shops will be even more popular as the whole idea is to be ecological. And you can find unique pieces there!
