Daily Inspiration: Meet Jeremiah LaPlante

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremiah LaPlante.

Hi Jeremiah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
“A New Chapter in My Life”

I wanted to share a big life update with my friends, family, and colleagues. Over the past year, I’ve been working toward a whole new direction for my life — one that’s closer to my heart and true to who I am.

Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve always tried to make others proud — family, friends, coaches, teachers, even coworkers and superiors. I wanted to exceed expectations, earn approval, and prove myself worthy in everything I did. That drive has shaped much of my life.

Like many kids, I had big dreams. Mine was to play professional baseball. My dad and I spent countless weekends on the field, even when there wasn’t a game, just practicing and chasing that dream together. But as I got older, I realized it might not be in the cards. After surgeries, setbacks, and the tough reality of competition, I came to understand that maybe God had a different plan — one that fit the gifts He truly gave me.

Letting go of baseball wasn’t easy, but it taught me resilience and humility. When I went to college, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do next. I just knew I wanted to make my family proud. With my father’s help, I landed my first “grown-up job” in medical sales — the same industry he built a respected career in. My dad is an incredible salesman and has always been a role model in how he approaches his work.

I spent many years in that world, eventually becoming VP of Sales and Marketing for a medical device manufacturer. I was proud of the success I achieved and grateful to have made my father proud, too. But deep down, I always felt out of place. The wins that excited others didn’t fulfill me the same way. It was a good career, it paid well, and it opened doors to travel and friendships — but something inside me still felt empty.

I tried shifting directions, starting a consulting business to help small companies build their sales systems. It was rewarding in some ways, but that same feeling lingered. Then I took a role as a financial advisor — a new challenge, right as the world shut down in March 2020. I should have seen that as a sign, but I pushed through. I earned my licenses, worked hard, and served clients with care, but once again, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wasn’t where I was meant to be.

There came a day when I walked through the door after a long day at work, and my wife saw it all over my face. I broke down, and she said something that changed everything: “I just want to see you happy — no matter what that looks like.”

That moment unlocked something in me.

See, what I hadn’t shared with many people is that ever since I was a kid, I’ve always loved the idea of being a barber. My grandfather used to take me to his local barbershop, and those memories are some of the most vivid of my childhood — the sound of clippers, the smell of aftershave, the laughter, the sense of community. That old shop became a symbol of warmth, comfort, and connection. My grandfather was my bestfriend… Story continues …

and thinking about those days still brings me peace.

So, I decided it was time to stop ignoring that lifelong calling. After work each day, I started going to barber school. Long nights, early mornings — and somehow, I loved every minute of it. The creative energy, the chance to make people feel good about themselves, the conversations, the craft — it all clicked.

Recently, I completed my required hours, passed my written and practical exams, and became a fully licensed barber in the state of Texas. At almost 49 years old, I’ve officially started a brand-new career — one that finally feels like home.

I’m building my clientele now, one cut at a time. I’m learning, growing, and embracing every challenge with gratitude and excitement. Money will be tight at times, but for the first time in my life, I wake up happy about what’s ahead.

This journey has reminded me that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. It’s never too late to pivot, to learn something new, to follow your heart, and to live with purpose. The time to do what makes you happy is now.

I thank God for giving me the courage, strength, and clarity to take this step — and for blessing me with family and friends who believe in me.

Here’s to new beginnings, lifelong learning, and the freedom to be exactly who you were meant to be. ✂️💈
