Daily Inspiration: Meet Delaney DeLaFuente

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delaney DeLaFuente.

Hi Delaney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started photography shortly after having my first baby. I’ve always loved photography, taking photos, being artsy and creative so when photography presented itself as a possible career choice for me, I ran with it. It felt like it fell into my lap at the right time and I was so grateful to be able to stay at home with my daughter, while having a creative outlet and bringing home an income. It’s been a huge blessing and I’m so grateful for all of my past, present, and future clients! I truly couldn’t do it without all of their love and support.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hadn’t always been easy. There’s definitely been ups and downs, and slow seasons. I think the Covid era was probably the hardest. It was unpredictable, like for everybody else at that time, I didn’t know if I’d be able to continue to do what I love. There’s also the creative aspect that’s always changing. You have different ideas and styles, and sometimes people vibe with them and sometimes people don’t. But I will say, always doing what I love and fueling my creative side is what has kept me going. Doing things just for me or just going for it and bringing ideas to life has been something that makes my soul happy. That’s the best part of it all and makes everything worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a family, motherhood, birth and underwater photographer. I am called to all things motherhood, from bump to baby, to family. I love every aspect of a growing family. I enjoy documenting births more than anything. It is truly so special and magical to be a part of somebody’s birth story. I can honestly say there’s nothing else like it. Underwater photography is something I dove into a few years back and it has been so challenging and incredible. It’s fun, and different and not something that’s really offered in our area so I really enjoy giving that option to my pregnant mommas and even families that wanna have fun in the water.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I think the best thing to do is to reach out to other photographers in your area, or ones you admire. Tell them you love their work. Click up with other locals and get creative. Do weird things and be artsy! You never know what you can come up with and can create until you try it!
