Today we’d like to introduce you to David Silva.
Hi David, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started about 5+ years ago but I’ve always admired the arts. The camera was a fun way to tell stories or take portraits because it makes you think creatively and pushes you to think outside the box.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always going to struggle on the path to doing something that you love. One of the biggest hurdles in photography is money.
It’s an expensive road to follow, especially when you are just starting off, but it still requires your commitment.
Another struggle you risk encountering is that you may forget what you loved about what you were doing, but you have to learn to push through that, just like any other art form.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in fashion portraiture, but as mentioned previously, I enjoy experimentation and dabbling in other styles, mediums, and aesthetics. Film and video are also mediums I am currently exploring.
The thing I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come.
As cheesy as it sounds, it’s true because I can look back at my photos and continue to see improvement. This is not an easy road to stay on and there is no immediate gratification, I quit many times, but I somehow always came back.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t do it… just kidding! I would say the most important thing if you are starting out is to stay focused and don’t give up. Surround yourself with people who see the value in your work and that will make it all the better.
