Daily Inspiration: Meet Ashleigh Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Thompson.

Hi Ashleigh , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Crazy Plant Lovee started from a simple love of plants and creating things with my hands. What began as propagating and selling plants as a small side business gradually evolved into something much bigger. I discovered that I loved helping people connect with plants in ways that felt approachable, fun, and creative.

Over the years, my business has grown to include curated plant designs, upcycled planters, terrariums, DIY kits, workshops, and community events. I have always believed that plants don’t have to be intimidating and that creativity can flourish when people are given the space to explore it.

One of the most meaningful parts of this journey has been co-founding The Art Space 830, a creative space where artists, makers, and the community can gather to learn and create together. Through workshops, plant experiences, children’s camps, and collaborations with other local businesses, I’ve been able to combine my passion for plants with my love of art and education.

Today, Crazy Plant Lovee can be found in several local shops and at community events throughout and around the Texas hillcountry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I think that’s true for most small business owners. Crazy Plant Lovee started as a passion project fueled by my love for plants, and over the years I’ve learned a lot through trial and error.

One of the biggest challenges has been figuring things out as I go. When you start a small business, especially a creative one, you quickly realize that creating the products is only one part of the job. You also have to learn marketing, bookkeeping, inventory management, event planning, social media, and customer service.

There have been slow seasons, events that didn’t go as planned, and times when I questioned whether I should keep pushing forward. Plants are also living things, which adds another layer of unpredictability. But each challenge has taught me something valuable and helped me grow both personally and professionally.

What has kept me going is seeing the joy people experience through my creations and workshops. Whether it’s someone buying their first plant, creating a terrarium, or discovering that they have a creative side they didn’t know existed, those moments remind me why I started. Looking back, the obstacles were part of the process, and they’ve helped shape the business into what it is today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Through Crazy Plant Lovee, I create plant-inspired experiences, workshops, and one-of-a-kind botanical designs that make plants feel fun and approachable. I specialize in curated succulent arrangements, terrariums, DIY kits, and upcycled planters created from unexpected vintage and everyday items. I also teach hands-on workshops that encourage people of all ages to get creative and connect with nature.

Over the years, I’ve become known for thinking outside the traditional planter. I love transforming unusual objects into living works of art and creating experiences that combine plants with creativity in a way that feels welcoming rather than intimidating. Whether it’s a terrarium workshop, a themed succulent kit, or a quirky planter design, my goal is always to help people discover that they don’t need a “green thumb” to enjoy plants.

What I’m most proud of is the community that has grown around Crazy Plant Lovee. I’ve had the opportunity to teach countless workshops, collaborate with other local businesses, and introduce people to plants in a way that builds confidence and sparks creativity. Seeing someone leave an event excited about what they created or inspired to care for their first plant is incredibly rewarding.

I think what sets me apart is the combination of horticulture, art, and experience. I don’t just sell plants, I create opportunities for people to slow down, get their hands dirty, try something new, and take home something meaningful that they made themselves. Every arrangement, workshop, and kit is designed with the hope of bringing a little more creativity, connection, and joy into everyday life.

What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, I hope to continue growing Crazy Plant Lovee in ways that stay true to why I started in the first place. I want to keep creating unique plant experiences, expanding my workshops, and developing new DIY kits and products that inspire people to explore both plants and creativity.

I’m especially excited about continuing to reach new audiences through collaborations with local businesses, community events, and educational opportunities for both children and adults. Teaching has become one of the most rewarding parts of this journey, and I look forward to creating even more hands-on experiences that help people build confidence with plants and discover their creative side.

More than anything, I want to continue growing sustainably and intentionally. Rather than focusing solely on getting bigger, my goal is to create meaningful experiences, strengthen community connections, and keep offering products and workshops that bring people joy. I’m excited to see where this next season leads and to continue evolving while staying rooted in the passion that started it all.
