Daily Inspiration: Meet Ashleigh Schuellerman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Schuellerman

Hi Ashleigh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a weird interest in real estate and architecture. When I was a kid, I would get excited to move to a new house because it meant that I could go see potential houses and walk through all different types of homes. Seeing the different layouts, the different rooms, and comparing them all has always been fun for me.

When I lived in Canada for a few years, I quickly became very good friends with someone who also had the same interest in real estate. We would get our 10,000 daily steps in by going to new construction show homes and open houses. By the end of it, we were picking our favorites aspects of each house and Frankenstein-ing the perfect dream home.

In 2022, my husband and I moved from Idaho to San Antonio. It’s the biggest, most populated place either of us has ever lived and I quickly found out that there is no shortage of homes to look at. (I still to this day have notifications turned on, on Redfin that tell me about homes that I might be interested in or might have missed.)

In 2024, after giving in to peer pressure from my friend and husband, I finally put my vast real estate knowledge to good use and got my license to become a Realtor. It’s been one of the best career choices I’ve made, albeit probably the hardest. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been when it comes to working, and when the snowball started rolling and more people wanted to work with me and be my clients, I found myself putting my multitask skills to the test.

While this career change has been incredibly stressful at times, it’s the kind of stress that I’m happy and excited to tackle. I never wake up in the morning and dread getting ready to work. I’m excited to talk to people, touch base with current and past clients, and meet new people. It’s genuinely one of the best decisions I’ve made.

When I’m not doing realtor things, you can find me playing Magic: The Gathering, video games, tending to my jungle of indoor plants, or hanging out with my Basset Hound, Fred.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, the biggest struggle for me was dealing with the death of my dog, Tali, in September. Juggling the stages of grief with maintaining a professional (yet goofy) demeanor was one of the toughest things I’ve had to deal with so far. For two months straight, I filled every hour of my day with work and took on every new client that came my way. While this was great for my career by making a name for myself and becoming more recognizable, it caused me to basically push my grief and sadness down. Once everything slowed down and I allowed myself to properly grieve Tali, being that professional (yet goofy) realtor became easier and less like a mask that was hiding what I was dealing with.

I still miss her every day and I still get misty eyed when I think about how much I miss her, but I’m doing my best to not let it eat away at me too much.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Realtor, so I assist people with the buying and selling of homes and all of the fun challenges that come with the process.

However, I don’t limit myself to just buyers and sellers. I also work with tenants and landlords. So if you’re needing to look for a new place to rent, but don’t have the time to look up properties, contact the management company, tour the place, etc., fret not! That’s where I come in.

I’ve helped many people find their rental property. I’ve had both busy clients with a jam packed work schedule, as well as out of state clients, where I would record a walkthrough video and send it to them. I also contact the property management company for them and make sure they meet the requirements before even sending them a property I found. I don’t like wasting people’s time, so I’m very upfront and transparent when it comes to either being accepted or declined.

I also always gift my clients a baby plant, propagated from one of my many, many plants that I have at home. They’re able to watch it grow while they live in the place we found and gives them a little something to remember me by.

What’s next?
The thing I look forward to the most is meeting new people and helping them in any way I can. Even if it’s not real estate related. I basically insert myself into people’s lives and regularly check in on them. I regularly tell people that I’m the friend they never asked for, but ended up with.

I love meeting new people and hearing their story, Seeing someone’s eyes light up while they tell you about a hobby they’re passionate in is one of my favorite things. Being a realtor forced me out of my socially awkward bubble I kept myself in. Now I start conversations with strangers and talk to them for hours, but feeling like we only talked for 15 minutes.

As far as changes in the future, I’m hoping to continue to build my career and help people.

That being said, my very supporting and enthusiastic husband has big plans for the future of my realtor career, both literally and figuratively. He wants to rent out one of those giants billboards and put my face on it. (If that happens I would like to formally apologize in advance, haha.) He also regularly hands out my business cards to people or hides them in random places for people to find at events we go to.
