Daily Inspiration: Meet Andria Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andria Rose.

Hi Andria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve had a passion for music. I used to sit locked up in my room and just write. I picked up guitar around 9/10 years old and began putting music to my melodies. I moved cities frequently growing up, which is what I think eventually enabled me to be able to put myself out there as I’ve gotten older, because in order to make new friends in the new schools, I had to come out of my shell. I also used to dance florkorico when I was younger and fell in love with being on stage. Around 16 I began doing open mic nights and playing locally in San Antonio, just myself and my guitar. When I was 17, I had friends who were musicians and joined me in playing my music live. We started playing house shows and eventually made our way to opening spots for artists like The Marias and Kali Uchis. From there, I’ve been just writing constantly and releasing music- and by the grace of the universe, I’ve gained support from Spotify and Apple Music by being placed in multiple official playlists, which in current day, seems to be a very vital way to reach new listeners. But overall, I’m just trying my best every day, and trying to give myself a break when I need it.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think that anyone’s journey is smooth, in any career field. To acquire success is to work for it, from what I’ve found. I definitely have had my days where I feel as though I haven’t been a success. When you’re an artist, numbers fluctuate all the time- going up and down. When the numbers go up, of course it feels great! But when the numbers inevitably may fall a bit, it feels like you did something wrong. Despite all of the amazing accomplishments I’ve worked hard to attain (such as being included in Billboard’s “Fresh Picks of the Week”, or NPR’s “Best New Latinx Playlist”, I somehow get clouded and tend to only focus on the emotion of feeling like I’m failing. I think that feeling really stems from a place of passion and perfectionism. As I’ve gotten older I’ve tried to remind myself that perfectionism does not exist- but what does exist is art, and the notion of creating it; and that is a really special notion. We have the gift of creation, and I really do feel that it’s vital to let yourself go in the act of doing so.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Mexicana singer/songwriter/producer from San Antonio, Texas. I make velvety music. I love to feel transfixed by music, so I try to emulate that feeling in the records I make. I am more proud of the fact that I have been able to accomplish all that I have on my own, with no team behind me. I do everything DIY with my creative partner and boyfriend, Bryan Cardenas. We write the music in our home, we shoot all of the visuals, and I work day and night in an attempt to get my work to different ears. I am proud of the shows I have been able to open for, and I am so excited for the future of my music. I would say I am known for being very sultry in my art, and using the color red. What sets me apart from others I think is the perspective in which I execute anything I do. My perspective is what has gotten me to where I am today.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Self-love should be the most important thing in your life.
