Today we’d like to introduce you to Amélie Saint-jacques
Hi Amélie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been organized, I loved TLC’s Clean Sweep as well as most shows on HGTV, and The Container Store is my happy place. Now, as a professional home organizer myself, I get to use my decluttering and organizing skills to help people! I took classes with NAPO (the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals) and became a professional member in 2019; I am now also on the Board of Directors of my local chapter.
In order to further help my clients, I then became a Certified KonMari® Consultant in 2021. Marie Kondo’s approach to decluttering really resonates with me, as it changes our mindset regarding our relationship to our belongings. Her method also allows people to let go of things with gratitude instead of guilt. It’s more than just decluttering, it’s a lasting change that goes deeper than that, and I love helping my clients achieve their vision!
Currently, when I am not with a client, I focus on taking online classes and getting more education in my field.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Any solopreneur will tell you it’s never a smooth road! But I like rising to a challenge. I am a problem-solver, and that is a skill that serves me well as an organizer too.
As a business owner, you end up learning how to do a lot of things that are not your actual job. I had to figure out how to design my website, how to network, how to market myself, how to create and give a presentation, how to file my taxes… I grew to like some of those things, and figured out where to get reliable help and information when necessary, but my passion is really working one-on-one with my clients to declutter and organize their space and help them achieve their ideal lifestyle!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the only home organizer in San Antonio to be both certified by Marie Kondo as well as a member of NAPO. My approach is different form others’ because I have a lot of professional knowledge and standards while applying the KonMari Method whenever is appropriate. I am also an introvert and an HSP, and I really believe that some clients benefit greatly from having someone like me who is more supportive than prescriptive.
I help my clients put their home in order and simplify their life. Sometimes we work on just one area of the house (closet, bedroom, play area, pantry, etc.), sometimes we tackle the whole house. Other times, it’s not only the living environment per se that is overwhelming, it’s a big life transition, and they just need help getting things under control again. So, we get rid of things that are no longer serving them and organize the rest in a practical way that is easy to maintain and, most importantly, that works for THEM! My goal is to help my clients create an organized space that will make their life easier and more peaceful.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is a moving target and is personal to everyone. At this point in my life, I feel successful because I am running a profitable business while helping people. Honestly, both my clients and myself feel so good after an organizing session! Even after a long day, when I drop off those donations for my clients, I feel successful.
I’ve also created the kind of business that allows me to be present for my family, and that makes me feel successful even on a day when I am not working.
