Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Hooks.
Hi Alexandria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m Dr. Alexandria Hooks, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, and I’m the founder of Hooked on Wellness Consulting, PLLC in San Antonio. After more than 20 years in healthcare, I reached a point where I couldn’t ignore what I was seeing every day: patients who needed time, education, and real partnership—but a system that rewards speed and volume instead of outcomes and relationship.
That disconnect didn’t just impact patients; it also fuels burnout for providers. I knew there had to be a better way to practice, one that’s evidence-based, personal, and sustainable. For me, that became both a professional mission and a faith-driven calling.
Hooked on Wellness was built to deliver whole-person care: mind, body, and spirit, without sacrificing medical quality. My niche’ is medically supervised weight management, but I also offer direct primary care, hormone therapy, and other wellness services, with a strong emphasis on prevention, safety, and long-term transformation. I’m proud that we’ve created a clinic model that prioritizes quality over volume and helps people feel seen, supported, and equipped to take their health back.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting a self-pay clinic comes with real startup costs, space, equipment, systems, legal documents, compliance, and the behind-the-scenes work people don’t always see. One of the biggest challenges was sorting through the overwhelming amount of information out there and trying to make the right decisions without expensive mistakes, especially when affordable legal counsel and clear step-by-step guidance can be hard to access.
Time management was also a major hurdle. Building a clinic while working full-time meant a lot of late nights, early mornings, and learning how to pace myself without burning out again. And emotionally, entrepreneurship stretches you, there’s pressure, uncertainty, and constant problem-solving. But every time a patient tells me they finally feel hopeful, they thank me for truly making them feel heard and cared for, or they see real progress, it reminds me why I started.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Hooked on Wellness, we provide faith-based, evidence-based lifestyle medicine with a whole-person approach: mind, body, and spirit. I want to be clear about what that means: we’re not ‘holistic’ or ‘functional medicine’ as a label. We’re clinically grounded, medically supervised, and focused on safe, measurable outcomes while also recognizing that stress, habits, sleep, mindset, and spiritual support can matter in someone’s ability to heal and stay consistent.
I specialize in medical weight management. In weight management, we take obesity seriously as a chronic, treatable condition not a character flaw and we build personalized plans that may include FDA-approved medications, lab monitoring, body composition tracking, and ongoing support. Prevention is a major part of our mission: helping patients address weight and metabolic risk early, before it turns into more severe disease or slowing progression when conditions are already present.
What I’m most proud of is the transformation we see when patients finally have a plan that fits their real life and a provider who has the time to teach, monitor, and adjust with them. What sets us apart is that we intentionally stay low-volume so we can deliver high-quality care, and we blend compassion with clinical excellence without being preachy.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
People are often surprised to learn I grew up on a Texas farm. That background shaped me—hard work, discipline, and a deep respect for the basics. It’s also why I love helping patients get back to the fundamentals that actually move the needle: nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and support.
