Daily Inspiration: Meet Alexa Gomez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Gomez.

Hi Alexa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I was born in Long Beach, California, and at the age of one, my parents chose to move to San Antonio, TX, and I’ve been here since. I grew up with two amazing, loving parents who supported me through anything I aspire to be in life.

I graduated high school and didn’t necessarily know where to go from there. I went to college hoping to make my parents happy, but I couldn’t find my passion or anything that truly intrigued me in those years.

In my second year of college, I had probably one of the toughest years of my life. I had multiple family/friends pass that year. I felt like I was going about life day to day and didn’t see much.

We went on a trip to Los Angeles to come back to a surprise that my parents had paid for me to go back and “distract” myself at a beauty workshop near Hollywood, where I received my first certification.

I’ve always loved the beauty industry but never knew this “distraction” would lead me to where I am today. I began to lash and would do it “for fun” or just as a “hobby,” soon to realize my clientele was growing day by day bigger and bigger, and I had to make a choice. I was torn, but I had faith in myself and took the leap of faith. I dropped out of college to follow my dream and begin my own business.

I am now going into my 4th year of lashing. It’s not easy, especially the scenes work of running a small business, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love what I do. I love how it lets me bring out my creative side; seeing my client’s reactions to what a minor enhancement can do and making them feel beautiful in their skin makes it all worth it. I now have a very steady clientele base.

So, what’s next? Classes, I always said I would have loved to be a teacher if I wasn’t lashing, and now, I will be getting the best of both worlds. This year, I will begin giving lash courses to certify girls in eyelash extension applications. It just shows that when you put your mind to something, you can make anything out of it. Never in a million years would I have thought I’d be where I am today. Thanks to all of my family and all of my clients.

Believing in yourself and putting yourself to the test to see what you are capable of should never be something that sets you back from doing what you want in life. You only have one life, so make it worth it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Having a tough year when starting and simply taking the initial step to beginning the business. Or simply the work that goes into a small business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a licensed eyelash specialist. I do lash extensions applications.

What I love most about my job is having an open creative mind. I can create whatever kind of lash the client wants from fullness, density, and style. I love my job and how there are no limits to creativity.

Some clients get color glitter, and the list shows their creative side. I just bring it to light for them!

How do you define success?
Success to me is doing what you love growing with it & being happy with it. It doesn’t matter how you grow or how long it takes you to grow as long as your making progress and being a step closer to your end goal & being genuinely happy in what you’re doing that to me is having success.
