Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Gonzalez.
Hi Adrian, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Cactus Waves is a band that has been years in the making, however only recently has the opportunity presented itself for us two members (Adrian and Angel) to take a step forward with the band. We have been in various bands together off and on for over ten years. we have done original music, and smaller scale cover bands. but finally stepped forward to lead and run our own band.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We faced a lot of struggles, music taste changes often, and so do the goals of bands and band members. We at a time were not interested in choosing to be a “bar band” and wanted to pursue original music as this duo. Then, other times we didnt want to pursue music at all. Its great to finally be able to be in a place where we can dedicate time to playing music we love and sharing it with people and being able to move a crowd and have them have a good time as well
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Cactus Waves is a band that likes to break genre expectations. currently, we are looking to create covers of popular songs in styles they are not originally in, trying to place traditional pop anthems into genres where they can stand out, or catch attention for songs not particularly in traditional genres that we love and mash them with popular songs for a great time with the crowd.
We are in the process of bringing these covers into an online setting as well. where we can create and share these versions with the online world because we know we’re not alone in enjoying a fresh take on a popular song
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
One thing that seems to be having a resurgence is the want for live music. There has always been a need.. and streaming platforms are great, but getting out to your favorite watering hole and enjoying some live music pushing air in the room or patio is a great time favored above a song playing a radio station. Getting to interact with the crowd and play their favorite song, or change the dynamic of the space from a quiet hangout to a crowd-pleasing party is a great time, and I think social places are picking up on that, especially post-pandemic.
