Today we’d like to introduce you to XO Monie
Hi XO Monie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up I was that shy, quiet, and nerdy kid. I always loved anime, gaming, cosplay, and hip-hop. It wasn’t until 2023 that I found an outlet to merge these passions together. I attended an anime convention that was hosting an “Otaku Rap Battle” and was mesmerized! I picked up the mic and haven’t put it down since. A fire was lit inside of me! I created XO Monie and cultivated my pink & blue Kawaii esthetic. I instantly began recording and releasing music. My first single “Waifu Queen” was released in March 2023 and I have gone on to release 8 other singes and 4 music videos. This also led to me performing at over a dozen Anime conventions and events through San Antonio and Texas. In December 2024 I had the pleasure of being a contestant in the City Showdown, hosted by the San Antonio PBS station KLRN. I have gained immense community support and am so thankful for every opportunity that I’ve had.
I am currently working on my first Studio album “Super Kawaii” set to be released June 2025. The project draws heavily on Japanese & Korean pop culture/music and of course anime & gaming. I am creating a fun feel good project that will bring joy to all listeners. My goal for the future is to continue to showcase my unique musical talent and to grow my audience.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This journey although fun and exciting has not been easy. Creating something like music is very personal and you worry how it will be perceived. Writing and recording the music is the easiest part. The hard work comes in with releasing, marketing and managing the music. I am still trying to figure out and navigate this part of my musical journey. I’ve’ also come to realize that some of my biggest struggles are internal, like self-doubt and fear. However, I still manage to pick myself up and push forward. I truly enjoy what I do and the music that I make. As long as you keep going then you cannot Fail!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make music! Specifically Hip-Hop/Rap music that is lyrically influenced by anime, gaming, and nerd culture. I’m known for my quick-witted lyricism, cosplay, and live performances. I am proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and showcasing my talent to everyone that listens. I am proud of every stage that I’ve stepped on and performed at. I am extremely grateful to my community and all of my supporters. I take pride in my unique sense of fashion and passion for music. You know who XO Monie is when she steps in the room because you can’t mistake that Pink and Blue Kawaii Esthetic, along with the talent and charisma of a real-life magical girl.
What matters most to you? Why?
Finding something to do that truly makes you happy, it can be big or small. I feel like we spend so much time working, worrying, and being stressed. It’s so important to do or explore something that brings you joy. It can be reading, writing, painting, dancing, walking, etc… Make time to allow yourself to enjoy those things. It sounds cliche but life is too, and your happiness is important.
