Today we’d like to introduce you to Will And Shannon Corbitt.
Will and Shannon , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Who knew Sweet Potato Pie could be part of a love story. Wills grandma taught him how to make Sweet Potato Pie as all grandma’s do; a pinch of this, a dab of that. From there will learned what metric measurements the pinches and dabs translated too. After meeting Shannon he wanted her to be able to have grandmas Pie but Shannon had many food allergies to include gluten. Will worked tirelessly to work grandmas pinch and dab magic but to make it so his sweetheart could enjoy it too. Once he finally came up with the adapted recipe he only had one problem; people liked it more than Grandmas….that was an uncomfortable Thanksgiving to say the least.
Shannon convinced Will to make enough for some coworkers and from there got the feedback that these pies were amazing and needed to be shared outside of friends and Family. That’s where Nell-lees was born, an incorporation of both Will and Grandmas name.
Fast forward two years and after Nell-Lee’s inception and with two kids, hot San Antonio farmers markets were no longer feasible. The holy spirit inspired the Corbitts to come up with The Vine. As Shannon puts it The Vine is Divine. The Vine is after John 15….I am the Vine and you are the branches. Its a place where we want people to be fruitful. To use it as a base to get their products to the community. With a comfortable luxury vibe, the tiny house located in Broadway News sells Nell-lee’s gf sweet potato pie but also a wide range of other items and pieces. With vendors rotating through thr Vine on a weekly basis, you will always find something worth stopping for; delectable cinnamon rolls, beautiful jewlery, dog treats, candles, soaps….you never known what awaits you at The Vine
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not easy. With two small babies who refuse to sleep through the night, all family many states away, full time jobs and pure exhaustion it was not easy launching this business but by the grace of God it is now up and running
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Not sure about this question. Id say we are set apart for many reasons but mostly because we want our vendors to succeed. As a black business, we stand out, but we also stand out because we have a true caring investment in our vendors and our customers. Each person that passes through our doors as a vendor or a customer adds to our story and becomes part of our Vine.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years we will still be The Vine. Thats what we love. Homemade, inspired talent cant get replaced by AI. The human spirit is alive in each pie Nell-lee’s makes from scratch and in each product someone brings to the Vine. The only change we could see is possibly needing a bigger space.
