Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa ‘Cherry” Del Fierro.
Hi Vanessa , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in the Southside of San Antonio as a first generation American. The Southside is a melting pot of many different styles of music. I began singing out of the womb! I was fully involved in any and all arts throughout my school years. I give credit to my Elementary School Teacher at Adams Elementary Ricardo Salmon for allowing my first musical platform as a shy kid. At sixteen I was chosen to perform on National Television for the first time with the legendary Don Fransisco (Sabado Gigante) It wasn’t until I found the Mariachi program at Harlandale High School that I learned my first instrument guitar, then learned violin by ear..
I was then chosen to be a finalist on the Latin American Idol (Nuevas Voices de America on Telemundo) by Emilio Estefan. It was a great experience but fame on a nationwide scale was quite scary being that I was still broke and didn’t have protection, haha. I had several recording offers after the show but I preferred my artistic freedom close to home plus we couldn’t record for several years due to our show contract.
I came back to my hometown of San Antonio and saw there was so much talent and created my own version of talent scouting for women in Mariachi. There was plenty of mariachi/musical education in schools but there weren’t enough platforms showcasing women after they graduated. I then decided to form my own All Female group Mariachi Las Coronelas who have now performed on Jimmy Kimmel with Bill Murray, performed for Pierce Brosnan, The Willie Nelson Family, Robert Rodriguez and many more. We have thousands of performances under our belt and love to perform for everyone.
FILM/TV While performing at the Texas Film Awards I was approached by the amazing Carl Thiel a renowned movie composer and he invited Las Coronelas to perform for Robert Rodriguez’s Birthday. Robert Rodriguez later invited me to perform on From Dusk Till Dawn the series and to sing with his awesome band Chingon, Carl also invited me to sing on The Netflix Soundtrack Seis Manos, the song was MAL HOMBRE with a cinematic orchestra, originally recorded by Lydia Mendoza, The entire soundtrack is incredible!
I’m also now acting under my agent, Condra Artista.. I love to work!
VANESSA CHERRY AND TEXAS MARTINI – As a creative, I love being involved in many projects, my latest that I’m VERY excited about is Vanessa Cherry and Texas Martini, It’s the place where I get to write songs and record/perform with a variety of incredibly talented musicians from Texas, they bring my original songs to life on stage and in the studio. I named it Texas Martini because I want to be able to feature different musicians, like a shaken Martini! The name Vanessa Cherry was originally my secret crypto investor name so I decided to use it as my stage name. I then added Texas Martini, a martini with a Cherry on top, not olives! I am currently recording the album and super excited to release it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was forced to slow down as I was recently diagnosed with Mold Toxicity!
I’d been sick for about six years and I kept getting worse, I was having voice issues, brain fog, unexplained weight gain and chronic fatigue. Strangely, music wasn’t appealing, my personality was changing and things I loved no longer mattered. I knew that wasn’t like me so I kept researching many hours a day while trying every medicine, supplement, doctor, nutritionist under the sun. It cost me so much money and I couldn’t work which is why I turned to digital asset investments from bed because… I don’t give up!. I visited many Doctors and we couldn’t pinpoint the issue until now. Thank God we finally found the root cause. I’m starting to feel a lot better. I scream this from the rooftops in hopes it will help someone out there as I spent years looking for a solution that no doctor could explain. I’m usually very private, Suffering in silence was difficult but I’m grateful for the people close to me who were so supportive.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a musician/filmmaker/documentarian/editor/ actress/ digital asset investor/producer
I’m proud of all of these achievements because they all have meaning. Along the way with what I could, I’ve helped to shine light on other musicians/artists while forming communities and bonds that will last a lifetime. I’d love to open a dog rescue shelter, fingers crossed,
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I’ve learned the importance of health because without it you can’t reach your full purpose, Whether it’s helping your community, spending time with family or achieving artistic goals health is needed first and foremost.
