Conversations with Morgan Ziegler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Ziegler.

Hi Morgan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My love for storytelling and capturing moments started at a young age and has since turned into my whole life.

Becoming a mother and being a wife to an Active Duty Marine 5 years ago really ignited my passion. I started as a couples photographer, I spent a lot of time with fellow military spouses at their partner’s homecomings.

That gave me an unbelievable amount of joy in capturing the moments when partners have reunited after months apart.

When my husband’s contract was up and we settled into civilian life, I had a strong urge to capture motherhood in all its glory. Maternity is one of my absolute favorite subjects, those moments right before you’re about to meet the love of your life are the greatest thing.

I also thoroughly enjoy capturing families in their chapter, I understand that life with little ones or even teenagers is so fleeting, and while I take my job seriously, I allow families to be themselves, even if that means capturing the tantrums from the tots to the teens.

I have recently started my journey into birth photography and hope by 2023 to be specializing in births as that’s when the entire motherhood journey begins in full force.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it’s been smooth.

I dealt with my own personal struggles, my husband’s deployments, moving back to my home state (Ohio) and starting all over, and then when we moved to Texas I got pregnant right before Covid and had to start all over again in an unfamiliar place.

My style of editing has changed multiple times while I was finding myself in this industry. As an artist, I’m glad that I have the ability to make these changes without uprooting everything.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in all things motherhood. Maternity and families being the forefront of my business. I’m also taking classes to be a birth photographer and hopefully one day a doula on top.

As a mother, I understand the stress that comes with sessions so I tell all of my clients that I will walk them through each step.

I start by sending a questionnaire to get an idea of their vision for their photos, from there I introduce them to my location guide and I give styling guidance, I even offer to go shopping with my clients to help them find the perfect clothes for their pictures. My maternity clients have the ability to choose from my client closet where I have a few gowns.

I’m honestly so excited when I hear that I made their session the easiest photography session they’ve ever had from the before to the after.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I’m hoping to be a full-time birth photographer, being there for parents at that moment when their little one comes into the world full of wonder and love.

Being able to give a mother and her partner an amazing gift and being able to relive that moment over and over again.
