Today we’d like to introduce you to Mason Schappert.
Hi Mason, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been practicing art for the majority of my life. I found an interest in art at a very young age. It was a strong hobby of mine growing up and through school. I worked with various mediums, including acrylics, charcoal, clay, watercolor, and graphite, and dedicated all my free time to improving my craft. High school is where I witnessed my skills really develop and I began taking art commissions as a side job, receiving more business than I expected! After graduation, I decided to officially launch my art business, MS Studio, in April of 2021. My style and personal understanding of art have changed a lot over the course of my artistic journey. I am much more appreciative of the creative process as I practice with different art mediums and appreciate my true love for art.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was always clear to me that my skills and interests thrived in artistic outlets. Creating art is second nature for me but taking the leap to launch my business was not an easy decision. I faced a lot of personal contemplation about my future as an artist because I was unsure if my artwork could carry the weight of a business. I also faced several occasions where I lacked inspiration, which made it difficult for me to produce art. These inspirational droughts made me feel like pursuing art was not the right path, but these stagnant periods were surprisingly insightful because I was able to retrace back to what inspires me the most. I started traveling again, taking road trips to Texas state parks over weekends and flying across the country to engulf myself in something entirely new. One trip after another, my mind was exploding with ideas and eyeopening realizations. Those art blocks taught me how the most beautiful ideas can come from anything and sometimes we must look beyond our reach. Now I’m completely confident in my art skills and level of inspiration for my work to be unique and spiritually resonate with others.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work expresses my perspectives of the world and the powers of the human mind. I have worked hard to develop a deep connection with myself and believe others should be reminded of their incredible capacity and inner power. I believe nature is so closely tied to who we are as humans and I aim to celebrate nature in my artwork as well. Overall, I like to consider my artwork as a message about self-connection and consciousness for those who feel either disconnected, somewhat connected, or strongly bonded with themselves. It’s important to remind someone how special they are.
I work primarily with acrylics and graphite, but have started experimenting with digital art. I’m really proud of how my style developed because today I’m creating work that reflects my true thoughts and beliefs. Art has become my outlet for expression, making my practice even more meaningful.
What matters most to you?
Resonance matters most to me. I feel incredibly fulfilled when my work resonates with someone. Knowing that my message was received and interpreted in a way that promotes self-connection is a huge success. My main goal for my art aside from self-expression, is for others to recognize their great inner potential and acknowledge their uniqueness. Everyone is entirely different in the most beautiful ways and it makes me more than happy to know someone may become a little more enlightened when they see my work.
