Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Maria Band.
Thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourselves.
Thank you for having us! The band started back in 2013 with Pedro and Diego Noyola. We began writing together the summer of 2013 and performed from 2014-2017. The band went on a hiatus from 2017-2021 to join Noise Quota, where we met current bassist Jack Friedland. Noise Quota later disbanded, and the three of us revived Mary Maria. We’ve released a 4-song EP, and been performing these songs and others for a little more than a year.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely not a smooth one, and there are endless challenges. The biggest challenge we encounter is recording our music. It can be hard getting together to record while also rehearsing, gigging, and working our day jobs. Not to mention a couple of us are in other bands as well.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a trio, with Diego on drums, Pedro on guitar, and Jack on bass. We’d say we are most known for trying to set our sound apart using our influences from alt-rock to prog or math-rock, but without falling into one specific genre. We’ve been planning our next releases for the coming months and writing new music to record soon after, hopefully. Right now, we try to perform as often as possible, and we are just starting to do weekend tours in other Texas cities. It’s been exciting building our team up and meeting other bands and show-goers/fans.
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
Music requires us to take many risks with every opportunity that comes to us. Risks are always on our minds, but we don’t let them stop us as we grow.
