Conversations with Leandra Camacho

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leandra Camacho.

Hi Leandra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Leandra Camacho; I am a self-taught makeup artist in San Antonio, TX. My small business is Getting Glam With Nessa. I started getting into makeup at around 15. I watched youtube makeup tutorials and fell in love with some of the influencers and how they combined different colors and designs. It is truly an art. When I started working, I saved up what I could, bought my first 2 eyeshadow palettes, a foundation, and a few brushes, and got to work. I could have been better starting out, but I kept watching videos and eventually got the hang of it. I started posting pictures of my makeup on instagram and eventually got the courage to post my first youtube video. What started it all was one day, a coworker of mine asked me to do her makeup for her wedding. I was in total shock! I asked her, “are you sure??” I did a trial run, and she loved it! She showed me a picture of her wedding day, and I couldn’t believe that she had asked me out of everyone to do her makeup for her special day. So then I started my little business. It’s slowly growing, but I enjoy doing makeup so much. It truly is my passion.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a small business is never easy, especially in the makeup industry, because there are so many people you’re up against that have been around for years. Running a Facebook and Instagram page can be difficult because you try to get as many followers as possible and promote as much as possible.

Please tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others.
I specialize in makeup, and I am a self-taught makeup artist. I do weddings, prom, homecoming, and if you want your makeup, just for fun. I am proud of how far I’ve come, starting to post more on my pages and youtube.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My family and friends have been my biggest supporters for sure. My mom, Laura Camacho, has me do her makeup for almost every occasion. She had me do her makeup for her birthday last year just so she could say, “my daughter did it for me.” My best friend let’s me practice different looks on her to try and perfect other techniques and color combos. So shout out to Letty D I love you so much. And, of course, my boyfriend, Patrick M, who always supports me in everything I do.
