Hi Jess , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jess Olfson, and I’ve been a hair stylist for over 15 years, specializing in men’s cuts and beards. I’m married to my high school sweetheart, George, and we have two girls Zoey and Daphne.
I’ve had my own salon since 2018. Every day behind the chair still feels exciting to me, because I get to blend technical precision with real connection. I absolutely love what I do, and my goal with every client is the same: to create a look that fits who they are and to make sure they leave my chair feeling seen, confident, and uplifted.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been the easiest road, and my journey in recovery is a big part of that story. Being in recovery has changed how I show up as a stylist and as a business owner, and I try to weave 12‑step principles into everything I do, from how I treat my clients to how I run my chair. Covid and the economic ups and downs have made it challenging to stay in business, but leaning on honesty, service, and gratitude has helped me not only survive, but truly thrive and build a space where people feel have fun, feel refreshed and uplifted.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My beard work truly sets me apart from other stylists, and it is where my experience and attention to detail really shine. I’m proud to say there is no beard I can’t master, from precise line‑ups and sharp fades into the beard to full reshaping and restoration of unruly growth.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Faith plays a huge role in my journey, and I owe every bit of my success to God and the grace that has carried me through the hard seasons. Just as important are the true connections I make with each client in my chair, because it is those real conversations, trust, and shared humanity that turn a simple haircut or beard service into something deeper and more meaningful.
