Hi Holly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Holly, and I am a photographer, artist, and mother of two wild boys who are the foundation & soul of who I am today. I’m a California native, born and raised in Santa Cruz Bay Area, but now live in Texas with my husband and our two wild, fearless boys.
Birth & motherhood became my pure, wholesome passion when I first got pregnant with my oldest. I’ve always dabbled here and there with a camera but never professionally. Birth and motherhood photography lived on my feed as I scrolled my social media but It wasn’t until the birth of my second baby that I hired a birth photographer and learned firsthand how empowering, and incredible birth photography can be. I enrolled in Birth Becomes You and became certified in birth and motherhood photography shortly after. A flame was lit in my heart, and my creative side flourished. All of my photographs consist of raw, uncensored stories, normalizing the birth of our babies, postpartum bodies, scars, stretch marks, leaking milk, and all of motherhood. I document the real and honest, going against society’s standards, photographing what matters, and sharing my heart through an honest lens. I am planting the seeds of empowerment through raw, beautiful imagery so that one day, we no longer fear birth or the body that grew our babies.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been okay! I plan to book more in the coming new year! Money has been tight for everyone lately, so it’s understandable why photographers with such specific niches need help to book consistently.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in Birth and Motherhood Photography. My style is expressive, moody, and more documentary style. Most of my sessions consist of raw, uncensored stories, normalizing the birth of our babies, postpartum bodies, scars, stretch marks, leaking milk, and all of motherhood. I document the real and honest, going against society’s standards, photographing what matters, and sharing my heart through an honest lens. In today’s society, this bounce-back culture is advertising every possible product to tighten your skin, slim the waist, and make the stretch marks disappear. However, I am going against that and showcasing how beautiful our bodies can be. I am planting the seeds of empowerment through raw, beautiful imagery so that one day, we no longer fear birth or the body that grew our babies.
