Conversations with Gimena Gómez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gimena Gómez.

Hi Gimena, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started in the entertainment industry in Mexico when I was a child. I have a BFA in acting. I have two decades of presence in the hispanic market in the USA, Mexico and in other Latin American countries, as well. I starred in the film “Pole Dance” of the Goya Nominee “Maryse Sistach” and my tv series and movies have been streaming on main platforms such as Netflix, HBO, Prime Video, Peacock, and on air in tv chains such as MTV Latin America,Sony Teleset, Televisa and Tv Azteca, among others. Right now my tv series “90 minutes” is streaming on Peacock in the USA where I play a series regular character.

Seven years ago I met my now husband on a trip to New Orleans. We finally got married last year and I moved in August 2025 to San Antonio, Texas because he got the UTSA head coaching basketball job. I am facing a new challenge in my career now and I am trying to connect with the anglo-saxon industry in the US since I finally got my permanent residence. I recently studied screenwriting in the Austin school of film, I am also studying acting again in the Carol Hickey acting studio (in Austin too) and got signed with Eris Talent Agency two weeks ago. I also directed my first short film under the teaching of the San Antonio Film Festival founder, I hopefully will be screened there in July.

I love storytelling, I don´t see myself doing anything else. Whether it´s in the front or in the back of the cameras, I want to be doing this until the day I die. Hopefully i will get opportunities here soon, I am really working hard and preparing for them. I am very thankful to be a Texican now!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It´s honestly a very hard path. The industry one. It´s a path of resilience and resistance since you are constantly being proved and rejected more than accepted (speaking about the casting process, where usually you cast for 20 projects to get 1). There has been a lot of times I want to quit. But the acting craft is also a spiritual path with so many rewards too. I have met so many wonderful people, I have traveled to a lot of wonderful places and It has made me a better person.

I don´t come from a rich family, neither a family of actors. I studied a lot and made my way into the industry in my country. I worked in the main platforms and tv chains there and I feel very proud about the career I made. When I thought I finally had a place there.., It occurred to me to fall in love with a guy that lived in another country! hahaha Maybe my soul loves adventures… who knows?!

I am facing a new challenge now: I am new here in the US, nobody knows my work, I don´t have any connections… I am not getting any younger, English is my second language and the process for the green card was exhausting. But I don´t have a plan B. I have never had. I have faith that soon I will make my way here too. Hard work always pays off. It´s not easy, but I have not other choice. It is my passion and my life purpose.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an actress, I also sing and write songs. I have an active spotify and I also do content in social media. I haven´t being very active lately, since the moving took a lot of energy from me, but thanks to my work in Mexico I reached over 550k followers on tik tok, 250k on IG, and 320k on facebook. I have fun in social media, but my real passion is the story telling. I feel really proud of my resume as an actress, since my projects have been streaming on Netflix, HBO, Peacok, between others.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was very curious. I still am. I studied so many things! I have a BFA in acting but I also studied pole dance, ballet, afro cuban, hip hop dance, salsa dance and singing for years. I did workshops of astrology and screen writing and so many other things I don´t even remember! I am an eternal student! I feel that the more I get to learn… the best I will understand human nature and the characters I get to play!

I am more tempered now but back in the day… I used to be a hurricane! so much energy hahaha I like me more now! I feel I can focus all that energy better.
